It is beginning to look a little like spring, with snow!

The daffodils are blooming and it is snowing!
It is so nice to work outside, I planted new strawberry plants, and stained new wood planters. Transplanted some things, and the basil is germinating in the greenhouse. Then it snows for two days. We do need the snow, because we just do not have a snow pack this year. I saw a spear of asparagus coming up, some of the old raspberry's too. I need get some lumber to make three new raised beds in the vegetable garden and fill them up with soil and compost. I need to get some broccoli, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts planted! The new raspberries are not showing any signs of life... are they dead? The rose is actually alive, surviving the extreme cold, however, the artichoke's did not.

Apple Pie

Apple Pie for hubby, Terry.

My hubby loves apple pie. It was raining and windy today...so...time to bake. I make the homemade filling and can it. I use the extension office recipe and canning instructions, and it comes out very good. It is rustic and yummy, not at all like frozen or store made pie.

I was in a cooking mood, I also made orange/coconut scones, banana nut muffins, oat bread, cream of chantrelle soup (from my hand picked and dried mushrooms), and dutch oven mac & cheese. All this home cooked food will keep Terry in bliss for awhile.

News from the Farm

NEWS FLASH !! Baby born Sunday!
Here is the new addition to the farm. Mom, Daisy Mae (after the Dogpatch cartoon) has given birth again. This is her fifth calf, a healthy Dexter. They are soooo cute. I never get tired of the baby animals. To note, I think it is a girl. I have been keeping an eye on the mom for a few days, and I knew it was about to happen. Yay, happy, happy!

New Project ---- Chair Planters

Chair Planters....what a fun idea. A container garden pot with a twist. I am excited to do this. I went out and bought 3 chairs at the thrift store. The chairs have bad seats, made out of twisted rafia, so I got them form $2 each. These photos are not my creations, only my inspirations. The weather is going to warm up later this week, so I can paint, and make the "seat basket", and get the planting started. I really like to move things around during the summer, and this fits the bill. For spring I will use Violets, and Pansies. Summer will be heat lovers. I have a great deal of trouble with deer eating everything. I might use a herb that is not palatable, deer will avoid it. Chives? Nastursiums? HUM! These chairs could be a fun gift idea.

Ducks Unlimited Oakridge Event

Last Saturday evening was the Ducks Unlimited Dinner at the golf club. My hubby, Terry, daughter, Nicole, her boyfriend, Bryan and I all attended the dinner. To be honest we are dedicated volunteers, I am the treasurer of the chapter. It is a big deal locally, we had 104 people there for dinner. There is a silent auction, and a regular auction with an auctioneer. Raffles, drawings and prizes round out the event. The chapter thought that this year might be a bust...with the economy and all. However, it was pretty good. I am happy it is over....now I just need to complete the financial report. Next project...taxes!! Ugh!!

Springtime?? Too early?

Is it too early for Spring? The plants are really coming to life, the Daffodils are just starting to bloom. The plants are needing to be divided and moved, repotted and fertilized. I just wonder what the weather has in store. Snow, freezing?
I sure hope not. I have been getting started on all these projects.

Today, I spent several hours in my studio being some new projects. I am making tea cozies, a new outdoor pillow for my patio chair, and repurposing several items of clothing into hand crafted and decorated aprons. There's an upcoming sale, and I want some really fun, and special items to sell. My creativity is running on overdrive to make some things. I am really having fun.
