Oregon Coast Lighthouses

Friday, January 20, 2012

This is the Yaquina Head Lighthouse. It is located just north of Newport OR.  I love to visit this area. Scenic, great beaches, and places to stay.  When my daughter was growing up, she and I spent every spring break in this area. Lodgings were located on beautiful sand beaches, long walks, gathering shells, agates, and flying kites. The Oregon Coast Museum is here, and I highly recommend visiting there. At one time, the Orca Whale from Free Willy lived there. There are interesting changing exhibits, and it is very nice to visit.

The is the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse, built 1871, and said to be haunted. This lighthouse is now a Museum and open to the public most days. The state park where is it located is right beside the Yaquina Bay Bridge.

I have a friend who owns a home in Newport. I think that she will let me rent it for a few days.  My to do list includes a trip to the Oregon Coast sometime in the spring.  Some people enjoy the storm season, but I like nice weather...it is so much nicer for beach walking. It is fun to see the Gray Whale migration along the coast in the spring. I have not been there in three years...and I am looking forward to a trip! April sounds good.
