Sacred Space and Stuff
Monday, November 30, 2015
I am very fortunate to have a sacred space, in fact two. I find that having a space that is uniquely mine is important for my well being. I love to find and decorate these spots just for me. I am finding that I need to clear out some of the vintage things and future crafting projects. I am planning to open an Etsy shop during the winter months. My desire is to sell some of my treasures, clean out some things, get better organization of what I keep, and maybe earn some of the money spent. Or maybe a yard sale next summer.

I offered an invitation to my home to Thanksgiving Dinner Gathering, to my personal hater, Jane and brother. I received a very cold email RSVP, that they would come. I was skeptical that they were going to come. They did come and only a little late, they did bring the requested food. They did bring peace, in their way.... a cautious, polite, conversation for the day. Everyone was polite to each other. That is all that I had wanted. That was all I offered. I am thankful for this small thing.

This vintage turkey platter is a new acquisition to my mid-century ceramics collection. I had not been looking for anything, when I chanced upon this mint beauty. These were only used one time each year, then the mint condition is not unusual.
It was manufactured by Van Nuys California, 1957. The design is air brushed so each one is one of a kind. The pottery is very heavy, and I use that factor to date items. Any new platters are light weight in comparison. I noted one that is for sale online for $54.25, that is pretty darn high....I paid under $10. I am a bargain huntress, and this is my prey. LOL

Collecting vintage Turkey Shakers. I have collected quite a few of the shakers that were made in Japan.
The best and lowest cost place to go is the thrift store at this time of the year.
They save these to put out with the other seasonal type items.
I suggest that you stop by your favorite antique store to look at the ones that are for sale.
Get a good feeling for what the old ones are like. Look for the old corks. Most are stamped, Japan.
Most of the original sets are like these. One Tom Turkey and One Hen Turkey.
I am not particular about getting the sets. I like the single shakers just as well.
This set is in mint condition. Some sets have cold paint on them, that means that the finish glaze is under the paint. The paint is easily rubbed and washed off.
The thing that I like about decorating with them is that if I use a fall color scheme it is super easy.
Add Turkeys here and there...it is fun and cute...as this photo shows.
This post is a Thanksgiving Day distraction for me.

This idea has spread quickly across the USA. The creative people who are making the books are getting wealthy. I have a few books, and downloaded some free pages from the internet. This is a free page from pinterest, to show you a sample of the coloring pages. It is said that these help with stress...I don't know if that is true. It is a bit of fun to this on a quiet rainy Sunday.

The weather forecast is 27 F and expecting a little snow. This is definitely going to kill the garden.

I took and edited this photo with my new cell phone, a Moto e. I am still getting to know how to use it. It is my first smartphone, and I am catching on to all the features. My cousin told me how the building next to this burned down last summer, and when the brick wall next to this was removed....this wall was revealed. A very old advertisement, about a 120 years old, according to my research. Palouse, Washington is very small town located about 3 miles from the Idaho border, just on the edge of the Palouse region. The Palouse News was printed between 1892 to 1897. This area is a nice place to visit. I was there too early in the day to stop at any of the shops. I drove a highway into Pullman, Washington, home of Washington State University...then the ten miles to Moscow, Idaho. Back to present time at the local Starbucks for a Vanilla Chai Tea Latte...so good!

I am back home in Oregon again, to my home on High Prairie. This photo is pretty cute, I wish that I could sleep like that. I had a great time visiting my many family members. I would like to make a longer trip, so that I have time to visit the interesting places along the way. I don't normally go about 600 miles (one way) by car, from home, it is a journey for me. I stop for a night in Pendleton, Oregon, and spend two days on the road....so I can see some sights. This trip took me on a scenic byway on the way. I toured the Pendleton Woolen Mills yesterday. I stopped at a couple of junk stores too. I am so addicted......

I am visiting for the first time in 3 1/2 years.
I have never lived there...however it feels like home. I do admit to one summer working as a Camp Counselor at a Girl Scout Camp, Four Echo's, about 60 miles north of Moscow..near a tiny town of Worley Idaho. My grandmother was living at that time, 1974, and I visited her often.
I may not post much this week due to travel. Take care my girlfriends!
