2015 Wildfires - Stout Fire, Oregon

This is an aerial photo of the Stout Fire, near the town of Canyonville, and the hamlet of Milo, Oregon. This fire is about 75 air miles from my home. The startling fact is that it grew to about 10,000 acres in 24 hours. During my career in the US Forest Service I have never seen this happen in a forested area...it happens in sage brush, grass, tundra, but not in thick forests. This photo is when the fire was much smaller...maybe 500 acres. That is very scary...I can now see the smoke column from here! I hope that the smoke does not come here... The heat has been oppressive hot, 100+ for the past several days. The normal temperature is about 85 this time of year.

My concern is that Lightening is forecast for here, and there will probably be fires nearby. Hubby is far from here on an Antelope hunt. I sure hope that nothing happens close-by.

I have stayed indoors most of the time. I have trouble with this heat, it makes me feel terrible and I have headaches.

Wonderful Glamping at East Lake.

I had a shoreline campsite at East Lake in the background of this photo I took from Paulina Peak at 7894 feet elevation. From This viewpoint, it is possible to see both Washington state, and California....spectacular!!

I parked my 1963 Aloha travel trailer, Prairie Flower, my Glamping Trailer,  so that each morning when I opened my eyes I saw the lake shore. I perfect view just over my feet, a lovely lake and beach. Serenity...Peaceful...Beautiful. Sometimes there were people on the lake in fly fishing floatation gear...and watching the magic of the fly fishing is beauty to behold. There might be early morning kayak's out for a pre-breakfast paddle. The Osprey and Bald Eagles were fishing above the water.

There were four ladies together, each of us had our own trailer, and our own campsite. It is lovely to be with friends who are independent, and self-reliant. Together at potluck dinners, and campfires. During the daytime, we each do our own activities. Things at we do, sleep in hammocks, read in solitude, play ukulele, hike, swim, kayak, pick berries, play cards, and sketch, or color in the new adult coloring books. We go to bed early...and get up early. My body went to the natural day and night cycle. Simply wonderful!

A Great Gadget - Soda Straws

I was shopping at a local variety store this week, Bimart (Pacific NW store). The summer products are located by the front. I found these in the summer stuff. They fit a need of mine...there are many yellow jackets outdoors and I don't want any to get inside my drink can. They work great!

You may be able to find these in your location. There are many products that Jokari produces. Here is their site Jokari Soda Straws

Sun Tea in Vintage Pyrex

It was so very hot here....so we have been making sun tea nearly every day. I use a vintage Pyrex jug as in these two photos. In the bottom photo, it shows the original packaging. For making Solar Tea it says, and with directions. I just love it when I find vintage things that I use.

Destination - Crane Prairie Campground

By the time you read this post, I will be in a campsite at this location. I hope that I find a lovely site like this one. I think that this is the perfect view. I have not camped here before. Camptown Girls at Crane Prairie, this is wonderful. There will be some Thunderstorms and rain, however....I will be inside Prairie Flower if that happens. I hope that this weekend will be less busy, because the July 4 weekend is incredibly popular in this area.

2015 Canning Magazine

Do you like to can, or make unusual preserves? This magazine just might be for you....There is a recipe for Elderberry Preserves inside, and I am going to make it with wild Elderberries. The berries will not be ripe for several weeks. There are many interesting recipes with Tomatoes, I think that I will harvest buckets of tomatoes...and will try a few.

Lavender Fields Forever

I like growing lavender, however my row of plants is very small compared to this wonderful field. The thing is, the work to prune this many plants is overwhelming. My own plants take plenty of work to keep them in top shape.

Sometimes I do dry some heads, it is a pretty easy thing to do.

I love this watercolor! Truly beautiful!

I have made lavender wands with my daughter a long time ago. You will need to find inexpensive ribbons, and someone to give you blooming lavender...it is pretty easy and fun to do.
