Can You See The Deer?

Saturday, June 18, 2022

I took this early morning photo, here on the farm. The hayfield grass is very tall now. Making it difficult to see the wildlife that are here.

Can you see them now?

There are three small blacktail deer browsing in the grass. These three are last year's fawns.  When I see them together, alone in the grass, it means that their mama's have sent them out of the nest...while mama's bear this years baby fawns. These yearlings will hang out close by their mama's. Later, I expect to see the family all together with the tiny spotted fawns.

Black-tailed fawns are born in early summer and are spotted at birth, and lose their spots in the fall when they grow winter coats. They are born weighting around 6 to 8 pounds with no scent for awhile.
