THIS THING WE HUMANS ARE DOING
Oh. We are breathing. I know that for sure. Some of us are able to breathe better than others. But…we are all breathing. One big human family taking a breath and then exhaling…and then doing it again, over and over and over. Right now lots of us are holding our breath until we realize we still have to inhale, and then exhale. *What are we doing?
That’s what we are doing. We are breathing. For ourselves, for each other.
What are we doing?
Oh. We are watching and waiting. We don’t know what this is lots of days. It seems like chaos and utter insanity lots of days. We don’t know what we are supposed to do with it or because of it. So, we sit with who we are with…or we sit alone. And we watch. And we wait. It’s just what we do until we know what to do. Sometimes we watch the back of our eyelids while our heart and our imagination and even our anxiety gives us a full-featured film on that eyelid screen. We watch and we wait until we know what to do next.
That’s what we are doing. We are watching and waiting. For ourselves, for each other.
What are we doing?
Oh. We are grieving. Things aren’t like they used to be. There are so many things that were so beautiful that aren’t part of our life anymore. There are so many things that we counted on that we can count on any more. There are so many things that brought some of us comfort that aren’t comforting anymore. There are things that weren’t so good, or things that were only good for some that are disintegrating, falling to pieces right in front of us. So we breathe together. We watch and wait together. We grieve together.
That’s what we are doing. We are grieving. For ourselves, for each other.
What are we doing?
Oh. We are planting seeds that we want to grow into big and strong and healthy alive things. So many growing things are burning down, or already burnt down. We breathe through life’s fires, we watch and wait through life’s fires, we grieve through life’s fires.
And then we have to take that ash and mix it with all sorts of composted pieces of what used to be alive…..we have to mix it and mix it and mix it….and we breathe and we watch and wait for it to be good soil. And we grieve what that soil is made of….
and then we plant what we want to grow next.
And we water it, and weed it….and we let the sunshine do its job.
And some of us will be alive for what grows big and strong and healthy…and some of us won’t. Some big things take more generations than we get to be here for. But we still have to plant those things. We have to plant those things and nurture their growth.
Yes, that’s what we are doing, we are planting seeds and exercising the faith and the action to make them grow where other things burnt to ash. For ourselves, for each other.
What are we doing?
Oh, we are living as souls in human bodies. We came here to learn and grow and become. We came here to overcome. We came here to learn what love looks like in every situation. We came here to learn what we are capable of. We get to breathe, we get to watch and wait, we get to grieve, we get to plant new things….sometimes it’s a cycle that goes just like that….sometimes it overlaps all over itself. But we learn from all of it. We change and we grow. We too, were seeds that got planted, seeds that get to grow into something strong, alive, thriving, big and healthy.
Yes, that’s what we are doing, we are living as souls in human bodies. For ourselves, for each other.
Just keep doing it, whatever you can. We are all in this together. Breathe, watch, wait, grieve, plant, nurture, grow….repeat.
I love you.
