My Bluebird Houses

*********************************************************

I decided that this was a good day to clean out all my bird houses. I spent nearly 3 hours on this project. I have about 30 birdhouses on the 10 acres.

Last spring I missed the spring cleaning of old nests and material in the bird houses. Many of the birdhouses had 2 nests inside, a newer one on top of the older one, and were filled almost to the roof.

I found one dead baby bluebird, it was nearly big enough to fly...the feathers were blue. We had 2 or 3 boxes with nesting bluebirds last spring. There have been many Western Bluebird flocks singing and flying around the farm for about a year.

Most of my birdhouses are occupied by Swallows, there are 3 species of swallows that have nested here for 22 years.

I installed my handmade birdhouses 22 years ago. The main reason was for swallows to nest inside, and allow them to eat the gnats, flies, and mosquitos. I have found that using this natural method works extremely well.
