Today in the Garden - Asparagus and Strawberries

Friday, March 27, 2020

The Asparagus bed is about 18-19 years old and is not producing many spears.  I am remaking the garden with plantings of fruit and vegetables that are sustainable for years. I have been transitioning to a permaculture garden, and to have raised beds that are no-till.

We purchased about 50 asparagus crowns, and they were very large and had long plump roots. Some of the roots had green starts already. The permanent raised bed has now been completely renovated and newly planted. Yay! One garden project completed!

Strawberries! Project #2 for the permaculture fruit growing. A little better than other projects, the raised beds just need to be interplanted with new plants. The old sickly plants were pulled out to make room for new. I really love fresh strawberries picked and eaten in the garden.
