Caddyshack...remember Bill Murray

Saturday, May 31, 2014

Do you remember this movie, Caddyshack?  The epic battle against gophers...
What am I talking about?  My hubby is now staging his own epic battle against the gopher(s) that are burrowing around in our garden. The evil little rodent is busy eating the plants by the root and then pulling the plant down his hole to eat the entire thing. The leeks and garlic are nearly all gone, and other plants have also been attacked. What has hubby done to get rid of the gophers?  His main method is to trap, however, it has been several days, and the gopher is still eating new things daily. He had to pull out the arsenal of other stuff that some people use instead of traps....poison bait placed in the underground tunnels. This is the last resort............if only we had a gopher snake to put down the holes.

Memorial Day

Monday, May 26, 2014

Three days ago I visited the local cemetery where my in-laws are buried to put a wreath of flowers on their graves. As I looked around, the many American Flags on the graves struck me. So many deceased are former warriors, each serving our country.

My father served in the military, he dropped out of High School to join. He began his service during WWII. He flew bombing missions out of England......over Europe. He came home, and found that his family had spent all his money, and used or sold everything that he owned. I terrible thing to find.  So, today, I honor his service to the USA. His grave is in a military cemetery, with the precision lines of identical white markers...with flags at every grave. A site to behold.

Old Food Tins

Sunday, May 25, 2014

I must find one of these...with a lid...of course. There isn't a better way to store Marshmallows in my trailer. On the other hand, I do have some other old tins that could be used..............

Happy............

Friday, May 23, 2014

I think that this should be my mantra.  Have you ever really given deep thought about how to be happy, deep inside your soul? I think about the lies that I learned as a child, the lies that were told to me. Now, I have the wisdom to understand and change my truths.

Camptown Girls at Big River Campground

Monday, May 19, 2014

Here I am. Hooked up, stocked up....and ready for the trip. I only wish my friend was on time....I had to wait a half hour. The drive was great, a Thursday morning, and little traffic. It took about 1 1/2 hours to reach our destination....Big River Campground.

Here is the campsite, a lovely place in the Ponderosa Pines along the river.

The river, so lovely......is known as the Deschutes River, in Central Oregon.

My picnic table, with floral tablecloth and solar candlestick.

Prairie Flower with the "trimmings", all ready for the weekend.

My friend Connie playing her violin beside the river. I snuck up behind her to get this pic. Her playing is very lovely, and I enjoyed the music very much.

The Big River Campground is very close to Sunriver Resort, and Bend Oregon.

Happy Trailering...until next time. Have a nice campfire, and roast your favorite treat!!  Sharon

I am busy getting everything ready for the coming weekend, and looking forward to nice weather, too. I have missed taking Prairie Flower out camping for so many months. We are planning to go to Big River Campground, on the Deschutes River...about a two hour drive from home.

To Mother's Everywhere

Sunday, May 11, 2014

To all my readers who are mother's, I just want to wish you a Happy Mother's Day. I am so fortunate to have two lovely daughters, and have wonderful memories of my time with them. My day? You might ask? Uneventful, just doing stuff around the farm, and happy that this storm has finally gone east, and sorry for the rest of the USA as it hits them next.

Garden Bench Ideas

Wednesday, May 7, 2014

I am getting better every day. This bug really knocked my down for a while. My energy isn't back to normal....but is improving.

How about this for a DIY project, a pretty garden bench made from an old twin size bed! I love it! I will be keeping my eye on the look out for a potential project.

This idea is from In his Grip, here is the link Bed to Front Porch Bench

These two chairs that are side by side, changed over to a bench are very pretty....and I think would be an easy project for me. My imagination is working over this idea. I even have 2 old chairs set aside for possible crafts.
