The nearby neighbors' have 2 black bears getting into their orchards and breaking the apple trees for the apples. They have about 6 apple trees planted throughout their property. This friend lives down the hill from our property. His home is in a small opening in the native forest, and Black Bears walk across his place in their normal activities.
We have our home, garden, orchard, and bees in about 6 acres of wide open pastures. We don't see bears. However, we have 4 acres in timber, that are adjacent to out neighbors', and a bear was photographed on our place a few years ago. In fact, that bear climbed a large Douglas-fir and ripped up hubbies tree stand about 20 feet up the tree.
Our seven bee hives are inside the garden fence, and still have all the honey boxes on them (ten boxes). The apple trees have many windfalls on the ground, and many apples still in the trees.
I hope that the bears stay satisfied with the trees they have found, and do not venture up here. Hubby put out his trail camera, to see if they come this way at night.
