The Front Door - Today's Project

Inspiration Front Door
******

Restoring the front door has been on my to do project list for 2 months. Today, I started this project.  My door is original to the home...about 40 years old. The style is probably custom...not like any other door that I have seen...and people often comment on it. The door has just the original stain finish, and it is looking really shabby.

My door is solid wood, heavy, and the stain is dark brown with alot of wear from pushing it open with shoulders or backs. The center is the worst place for wear. The door faces mostly North with a little angle toward West. It does't get direct sun, or weather.

I did not want to change the color. That is beyond my interest in undertaking. I selected a color much similar to the original...dark brown.

The wood was very dry, and soaked up the stain like a sponge. Two coats of stain and it needs more. I will keep adding coats until the door is sealed with new stain, and then a protective top coat to give the stain a chance to last several years.

A new door knocker will be added in the future.

The Old Man Crap today, "that project is too much work, there must be an easy way". Me, rolling my eyes and shaking my head...yeah, for you.(silently)

After I finished the first coat of stain. He said that it looked nice.  Shock!! What!! He said something good about my project. That hasn't happened in a long time...surprise!  He must have had crack in his behavior (forgot to be nasty), and miserable life!

Anyhow...I was busy with several projects all day. I did not give myself time to think about our national trouble.
