This birdbath has a long history with me. I purchased it new, at a nearby garden center...way back in the 70's. It is seriously heavy... we have to use a hand truck to move it short distances. Or...the tractor bucket....
I was just beginning my journey to become a local bird "expert". I have many bird books, and still purchase vintage bird books. The vintage books are interesting in many aspects, the information is very outdated. Wow, I am seriously off subject.

OK, back to this vintage leaking birdbath! I refuse to be parted with it...and if you have an old one, keep it too.
Several attempts have been made to keep it water tight, they were all failures. I still thought that I would reimagine, reinvent, and recycle it.
My problem with using it for planting, is that it is shallow. That is great for a birdbath, but a problem for me.
I decided to stack loose stones around the edge to make a deeper bowl for holding soil. I didn't know if my ideas would work...but, gardeners try many ideas...some work well and some don't.
I had the plants already, There are just three; 1. creeping thyme, 2. succulents, and 3. hens and chicks.
It is located as the feature in the herb garden, next to the pool. Created and planted just 8 weeks ago...it looks wonderful.
Let's just say that I am a proud landscape designer...if only for myself.

This pic is my inspiration, but it is not what I wanted, but it sparked my ideas and creativity.
