A Covered Bridge Christmas

Saturday, December 19, 2020

There are many remaining covered bridges in western Oregon. There is an ongoing history to decorate them for Christmas. This bridge above was just saved from a raging forest fire in Sept 2020. Everything around the bridge is completely black. This photo is from 2017.

This bridge is The Office Bridge in Westfir, OR. The bridge is unusual because it is very tall and wide. There was a lumber mill on the far side of the bridge. The size is to accommodate the fully loaded log trucks passage over the river to the sawmill.

This bridge is about 7 miles from our farm. Before Covid...there was a bridge lighting celebration. The community came together to stand in this bridge. The children saw Santa Clause, and had hot chocolate and cookies. There was carolling and entertainment for everyone.

A park was developed on the far side of the bridge, and there are festivities in the park.

Personally, I took my daughter there every year that we could go...it is very cold inside the bridge because the river underneath it is extremely cold. We did not stay very long because it is burrr.... not pleasant.

Covid has stopped our lives. I miss being able to attend and enjoy activities such as this one.
