A Wonderful Wedding Day!

Sunday, July 31, 2011

Yesterday, my daughter Nicole married her special love Bryan. All our planning and and ideas came to be, and the event was beautiful. I will have actual photos soon to share. I did not cry, I was enjoying everything and very happy. My goodness...Nicole and I drove together to the salon for hair and makeup. Then as we drove out to the venue, we were quiet and talked a bit....the reality of the day was right in front of us. A strange type of anticipation and excitement we shared.  Then, last night as I drove home, I recalled her at many ages and how close we are.  She and Bryan are very happy. Now, I am teary...not last night. I have so much love and joy for them.

Quirky Corsage for the Wedding

Tuesday, July 26, 2011
I want to wear something interesting, quirky, and really fun on my dress at the wedding on Saturday.  So, I should have considered this much earlier. Maybe, I can find a silk rose and embellish it for the big day! Wish me luck.

The Countdown until July 30 2011 - My Daughter's Wedding

Nicole and Bryan

I am almost at a loss for words this week.  This wonderful couple will be married on Saturday.  I will only experience this special occasion once, my only child, Nicole will be committed in marriage to Bryan.  I hope that I will keep a graceful composure during the ceremony.  I have much left to do, and I think that I have a handle on the finishing things. It is those unexpected things that will happen that I hope will not be a problem.  At least the weather is going to be nice...mid 70's. Yes, not too hot. I have boxes of things packed and ready to take to the site. Dancing Deer Mountain

Farmgirl is a Condition of the Heart.

Thursday, July 21, 2011

I am a Farmgirl. I enjoy my life in a rural area, with 10 acres around me. There are just 2 homes I see from here.  The deer, elk, turkey, fox, coyote, and cougar run free.  The snow is deep in the winter, and the rain is nonstop.  My garden is not producing, and I don't think it will. However, the grass is green and there is no drought here (or heat wave).  No summer either! My canning jars will remain empty this year. Boo woo.

My heart remains cheerful, hopeful and happy.  I am blessed. Truly.

My Favorite Handbag Designer - Amy Butler

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

This is Amy Butler's new book, it features many designs and styles of fabric bags.  I purchased the book at Joanne Fabrics with a 40% off coupon...so my actual cost was about $15.  If I get her individual patterns, the prices are about $15....so I think this book is a bargain because it includes 12 patterns.  Her website is Amy Butler Design

Now, I need to decide what to create....hum.....decisions.

Mennonite Girls Can Cook

Saturday, July 16, 2011

Check out this food blog Mennonite Girls Can Cook, see for yourself.  I am enjoying the array of recipes available on their blog.  I am making this recipe tomorrow, it is very easy and I hope as yummy as the blog says.

Swan Island Dahlias

Wednesday, July 13, 2011

I like to grow Dahlias. The flowers are fun to cut and put in the house.  It seems  that the selection is vast, and I have room for 15 or so. Swan Island Dahlias of Canby Oregon is the largest grower is the US.

We are getting cut flowers from them for the wedding, and the price is pretty good. I have to drive to Canby and pick up the flowers.  They will make lovely table arrangements. Check them out at Swan Island Dahlias

There are still many things for me to do for the wedding. Such as getting supplies for making boutonnieres, corsages, bouquets, and table arrangements. I keep working on all these details.

Mountain Lions in my Area

Tuesday, July 12, 2011

Today, at 3 pm I saw a Mountain Lion (Cougar) cross the road right ahead of my car. Not far from the golf course. This is only the second time that I have ever witnessed a Cougar in the wild. The animal is very close to homes, with horses. I hope that no one has an attack.  Daytime sighting is very surprising.

Homemade Powdered Laundry Soap

Monday, July 11, 2011

I have been considering making some laundry soap. I found this blog at Flat Creek Farm and she is making and using this pretty soap.  I am now convinced to try this.

1 cup borax
1 cup washing soda
1 grated bar of laundry soap, such as Fels Naptha, or Pink Zote
5 - 10 drops of essential oil

1 Tablespoon for a regular load
2 Tablespoons for dirty dirty load

Hobby Farm Home Magazine

Sunday, July 10, 2011
I love great magazines, and this one is one of my favorites.  Check it out online hobbyfarmhome and I hope that you like it.  I have diverse interests, and this magazine fits my farm, gardening, and cooking loves. There is a feature article about cooking with Sourdough. I have read it at least three times.  There are some recipes that I will definitely make.

The cake article is intriguing, and I will make several of those recipes in the future.

My life has been busy this week...and wedding planning on Saturday. Today, Sunday, Hubby and I met our future Son-in-law's parents. We hosted them at our home today. They are great people and I look forward to seeing them. The wedding is now 20 days...July 30. Time is flying.

2011 Hay Season is OVER!

Wednesday, July 6, 2011

Today is the last day, July 6th.... and all the hay is cut, baled and in the barns. Hurrah!  We had no equipment breakdowns....a very good thing. Nice green grass hay, and normal crop too.  Now we officially start summer. My dear Hubby survived another stressful season, you see...he gets very worried and anxious over hay.  My biggest thank you to our good friend, David M, he brings a voice of reason and calm to my hubby.  Our other friend who willingly bucked bales, Bill D, and nephew Ben.....thank you so much.  Our hired hands, Logan, Jesse, and Jordan....thanks!

Oh, and someone just called...wanting to buy hay of course. Sorry...all gone.

Later this month...a day of torture to put up my sister's hay, about 700 bales. Ugh!

Brave Girls Daily Truths for Inspiration

Monday, July 4, 2011

"Sometimes the bravest thing we ever have to do is accept a different answer to a wish, a dream, a hope or a prayer than the one we were asking for, and trust that it is still going to work out o.k. in the end."  BraveGirlsClub.com

I certainly relate to this statement, so much that it seems to be written for me... to remind me that taking an unwanted path is what life is about. I have learned this lesson over and over, but I still grieve over things that I have to let go of. To muddle through sometimes is o.k., I have learned.
