New Year's Eve at Stone Soup Cartoon

Thursday, December 31, 2015

This gal is not going to party on New Year's Eve. I will probably be sitting by the fireplace and enjoying the companionship of my family. Hubby will probably go to bed before 8 pm...LOL. I don't do New Year's Resolutions....that is completely not my style. I make plans, and have goals.

"What a beautiful thing it is when we see ourselves in the light of the truth...we begin to seek out and attract people and situations and a beautiful life that is meant for us, and life proves itself right. What a wonderful thing."

Changing My Hairstyle

Sunday, December 20, 2015

I am thinking that I am going to change my hairstyle a bit in 2016. I am currently wearing a longer length of Martha's hairstyle. I think that I will go shorter with some layers, and the lovely color. A good thing....LOL.....

Ariat Chatsworth H2O Boots Review

Thursday, December 17, 2015
I wrote a blog post last September or October about purchasing these boots for the wet and snowy winter weather. I have now had enough time to wear them and want to tell you about them. I got them online from Zappos

1. They are true to the photo, no surprises.
2. I thought that they were too large at first. I have been using several types of socks to find the right ones for the boots. The right socks made a huge improvement.
3. They were stiff and uncomfortable for the first 6-8 times I wore them. I have now worn them about 10 times and they have softened, and formed to my feet...and they are fitting very well.
4. I tested them in cold, wet, and very slushy snow. I walked in 2 inches of water. Yes, my feet stayed dry! I have not treated them with any shoe stuff.

Now, I really think that they are worth the expense. I think that the Ariat Boot quality shows and I will use the boots for several years. I properly rotate my footwear so they dry and air out completely between wearings.

Outdoor Lights?? That's a four letter word!

I gave that up several years ago.

Jenna has an old farmhouse in upstate New York. She is a 33 yr old  woman and a struggling writer and farmer. This is her unique home. I like reading her blog, and I have been following her blog for about 10 years. Thanks for your blog, Cold Antler Farm, Jenna.

No Christmas Tree?

Wednesday, December 9, 2015

Christmas trees bring out the worst in my husband and I. We disagree about everything....it is a difficult situation for me. At times, I get very angry, and really do not want to deal with the things. There is no joy in the tree for me. I have been personally wishing to stop doing the tree. I am someone who has a huge collection of ornaments dating to the mid 1970's, when I graduated from college. There are 5 totes full of Christmas stuff...and I am going to part with the things that I don't love. I don't love or need a tote that is full of stuffed snowmen...that was a phase from several years ago. I have way too many strings of lights...some of the old ones can go. I am giving away my collection of thrift store holiday theme dishes.

How am I going to decorate? Let's just say that I already have plenty of decor in the tubs...I will make the house look festive! I have one of these! Love it!

Christmas Idea #3

Monday, December 7, 2015

I like this idea for a wreath. It is unique, and pretty. It is easy to do yourself, and could be reworked for different seasons.

Christmas Idea #2

Sunday, December 6, 2015

I took this photo to show the use of blue for Christmas. The concrete planter is painted this color and filled with vintage glass ornaments. Unusual..but striking!

Christmas Idea #1

I took this photo yesterday at a Vintage Christmas Event. This is an easy idea if you happen to have all the elements. To be continued....

Terrorists in the USA

Friday, December 4, 2015

Here in the USA, we citizens falsely think that we are safe from terrorists. Our elected leaders are not doing what they should to protect us. Obama is a horrible excuse for a leader of our nation. Do not let him disarm us, we need to be able to protect ourselves. Individuals are going to need to pick up our observations of neighbors, coworkers, and people we see around us. We need to report strange behavior, and if we want to...arm ourselves. I know that many people don't want to get involved, and are very fearful of citizens having firearms. The shooting may have not been as terrible if some of the people were armed and ready to protect themselves.

Dear Swan

From Brave Girls Club,

What if the kindest thing that you could ever do for yourself is simply to let yourself be happy, to let yourself enjoy your life, to let yourself be who you are, TO LET YOURSELF BE. LET YOURSELF BE OK.

This is something no one else can do for yourself sweet friend. LET YOURSELF BE. Give yourself a break. Give yourself some grace. Give yourself some kindness. Give some beautiful love to your own soul. You need it. You are worth it. And you are meant to have it.

"Be kind, gentle, and loving, to yourself." My personal mantra.

Today, a little story to tell you. I had a normal dental cleaning and checkup. My longtime dental hygienist Kelly told me about her 8 yr old daughter. I am sure that the child is wonderful...but the parents have fallen into the trap. The trap? You might wonder....

The parents are making their child the only thing in life. There is no balance.
The eight year old is booked into every kind of activity...all of the time. The parents are totally committed to living all their lives by taking their child all over the place...and have no time for any personal activities or interests.

I believe that children do not want their lives to be scheduled like this...it is crazy making for both the kid and the parents. Why? I ask? Husband wants it, she says. It is an extension of how he was raised, he did swimming, and his parents gave up everything for him. That is all he knows. Well.....How about spending much more time as a family, and one on one with your child? Are they afraid of that?

Years from now, the Girl is going to tell someone that she wanted the time with Mom and Dad...not coach and team................that is my belief.

Back in my day, there were rare parents that fell into this trap. Most families were not child centered. Balance....
