Treadle Sewing Machine Base

Friday, August 25, 2017

Today's junking adventure was rewarding. I found an old cast iron treadle sewing machine base for cheap. I want to use it outdoors as a potting table. It is shorter than this one, so I think that a wood frame to add some height, and maybe I can find a thick chunk of wood for the top, or a big flat rock of some kind for the top. I want to be able to leave it outdoors year around. I will see what turns up...I will make something with this.

I Heart Sunflowers!

Sunday, August 20, 2017

I went out to the garden today...I always check the garden to see if there is any problem to deal with. I saw that I have a heart shaped sunflower. I got a pic to share with you. It was extremely smokey from the forest fires near here. UGH.

SUNJOE - A new garden tool

Thursday, August 10, 2017
I saw this battery operated garden tool in Country Gardens Magazine. I thought that this would be a good addition to my gardening tools. I searched online and at garden centers for a tool much like this one.  There just are not many to select from. I decided to buy this one because it doesn't weight as much as the other one.

I have been hand trimming the lavenders and other perennials, it is lengthy (time wise), and hand and wrist tiring situation. I needed some tool to make the situation better.

My new SUNJOE just arrived and I charged it yesterday. Today, I trimmed some plants.  I am impressed with the ease and handling of this tool. It has not had much hard use, so I hope that it will stand a test of time.

Navajo Cuff Bracelet

Sunday, August 6, 2017

Do you like it?
Wow, it is beautiful and vintage.
Would you wear it?

This beautiful vintage cuff bracelet is now mine, and I will wear it often, and enjoy the wonderful pleasure it brings me. I am a little quirky that way...

I had planned to go to a Vintage Faire at Brownsville Oregon....but it was just too hot. I went junking - antique(ing) instead, an interesting hobby.

The Pacific Northwest has been in the middle of a heat wave. It has been much hotter then normal (100 to 105), and is terrible. Forest fires are burning and growing very large, the smoke is bad.  The air is bad, so much smoke that I don't go outside much. The garden and patio plants are begging for water. I put out extra water for the honeybees. I put out a small water trough that is used for the baby calves....for deer and other wildlife that passes by.

1927 Lynn Bouge Hunt Print

Lynn Bouge Hunt, 1927 print
I have begun shopping for Christmas.  I have been finding this type of vintage art for Hubby. Mine is not the magazine cover, however I know that she did this painting by 1927. I may have a 90 year old print. The colors are not this intense in my print, my print is much clearer and is embossed adding dimension. This will be a great addition to the man cave. I happen to have a nice vintage frame to use with the print.

Vintage Fruit Chalkware Collection

Wednesday, August 2, 2017

I have been collecting the 1940-1950's fruit chalkware for about 15 years. What is chalkware? It is a plaster of paris material formed in molds, and painted by workers for inexpensive American decorating.  There are many subjects and forms of this art. It was often a fair game prize, or a cute little item at the 5 and dime store.

I have been collecting them for about 15 years...I have not added to my collection for 3-4 years. I haven't seen any in good condition, and very few anyway.

The collection started when I saw a huge garage sale, and saw one of these fruit plaques. It was new, still in the gift box...never used. That started the search for these things. I get them here and there, sometimes I get one as a gift, sometimes I run across one at a thrift store.

I found this pear plaque at the Salvation Army in Moscow, Idaho, for $1.89. This is an amazing price for an item like this...BTW, in Oregon the price would have been much higher.

I have now completed the collection. There are about 30 fruit plaques decorating above my kitchen cabinets.

Catmint - I love it!

Tuesday, August 1, 2017

I wrote a blog post in May 2017, about Catmint, and that I planted several of these blue flowering mints. I have been enjoying the plants ever since. The deer have not eaten it, and it is flowering beautifully all summer. It is a keeper! The winter will be another test to see if the plants are still thriving next spring.
