Making Hand Cream

Saturday, August 31, 2013

I think a nice thick hand cream is just wonderful. I like the feel of thick cream, and when applied before bedtime it makes my hands nice. I purchased some Bath and Body Works Hand Cream at Goodwill...but it is so thin and runny. Now, what to do about it. I found this easy method to make my own cream using the thin lotion. I am making use of this recipe to fix the lotion I have, so I am not using Baby Lotion.

16 oz Lotion
8   oz Vaseline
8   oz Vitamin E cream

These things can be found at the dollar store.

Here is a link to the blog that inspired me, and the directions: www.d-and-s-macke.blogspot.com
She suggests making these for gifts...a good idea!

A Lazy Day at the Farm

Friday, August 30, 2013

I have been alone on the farm the last week, with 10 animals to care for, and the garden. And....pet sitting to boot! These two have been enjoying twice daily swims. My dog is the Lab, Radar. I am taking care of Cappie, the Pom. These boys get along very well. This pic is of them drying...post swim. I am lounging under a market umbrella..drying off also. I get soaked from my knees down...from them. I have with me the essentials....

A hard cover book, from Goodwill for 20 cents, how about that deal!
My Nook in the pink case, I have about 50 books on it...currently reading The Hunger Games. And...in the Gold case, my Nexus Tablet.  I just got the gold case, at Macy's clearance...a $30 item..for $5, how about that deal. I have been thinking about crafting a case...but not anymore! I just love to use cases with a feminine touch (someone will not want to borrow them). I am not into sharing my goodies...

Don't ya just love it when that happens!!! I found another great deal on end of summer clearance...a pair of nice shorts (original price $45) for $3.99....that's 90% off!!! We will have a month of warm weather in September, so I will use them right away.

Have a Great Weekend...and enjoy the holiday on Monday. Tomorrow the University of Oregon Ducks play their first Home game of the year...I will be certain not to be anywhere near the traffic jams from the fans.

Storms in the Mountains

Sunday, August 25, 2013

The past week has brought many storms to this area. The fortunate thing is that there has been heavy rainfall. This means some fires...small and only a few fires...a good thing. The Forest Service has most of the fire fighters out of the state, Idaho has a big one in Sun Valley.

The camping trip that I just missed, had several storms and heavy rain. I am kinda relieved that I stayed home. I went junking today, and found a few great things for Prairie Flower...another vintage enameled metal floral dish and 4 vintage wood hangers for my clothes. I also found some crafting supplies, always good!

Love for the sake of loving...

A Good Book from Oprah...Back Roads

Friday, August 23, 2013

I just finished this book. Oprah had it on her book club in 2000. I found a hard cover for 25 cents. You should be able to find a used book easily. Of course as her book club suggests it is excellent, however, the book has a sad ending...common to most of the book club selections.

Good Friends!

This is very true. Laughter is the best medicine, and cheaper than therapy, for your health. This is one of the reasons that I joined the Sisters on the Fly, Camptown Girls, and Vintage Women with Trailers. I am enjoying the company of women friends this summer.

My new friends love my double chocolate brownies...I bring them to every potluck. I am missing a camping trip this weekend...however, the forecast is for T-storms. Happy weekend!

Love the heck out of Life!

Tuesday, August 20, 2013

This is a really good poster from my mentors, Brave Girls Club. They are the wonderful teachers and supporters for women, to take charge of our lives. I might not have done some things without BGC.

I am back from my camping trip to Diamond Lake with Camptown Girls. The area has many places to visit and things to do. I put a return trip on my list for next summer. The campground's are closed after Labor Day. I am thinking about a fall foliage day trip in 4 to 6 weeks. The campgrounds are Forest Service and have nice amenities, flush toilets and hot showers!!

Camptown Girls are Camping at Diamond Lake

Thursday, August 15, 2013

This is the lovely lake where we will be for 3 to 5 days. I have never been there and I am excited. It is not very far...75 miles, and should take a little over an hour to drive there. The reason that I say 3-5 days is that there are 6 large forest fires southwest of Diamond Lake. I am concerned that there may be heavy smoke from the fires. If that is the case...the time will be shorter, as I have trouble breathing that smoke. There is also the forecast of lightening storms over the weekend, and that may be a factor. I am planning for all to be good, and that I will have a good weekend. A visit to Crater Lake National Park is sure to be included.

A New Camera or a New Nexus 7, 32 gb Tablet??

Saturday, August 10, 2013
I am not a techie, but the new Nexus 7 Tablet by Google, just released this month, won me over. I think that this item is really good, and I look forward to using it. I am really happy that I didn't buy the ipad mini!  BTW, if you are thinking about making a purchase at Best Buy...they have a price matching policy. So, I found that Walmart had the same tablet at $199.00 vs the $269.00 at Best Buy. Guess what? I printed that ad out and took it to the Best Buy store...and they did price match. The manager wasn't too happy that I found it for $70 less and he had to honor the policy. The lesson is to shop around online, and bring in those lower priced ads. Yes!!! :)

Fall Creek Marketplace Vintage Faire

Thursday, August 8, 2013

The date is this weekend. It is a small sale, but it packs a punch. There is a variety of vendors that have great stuff. If you live nearby...make sure to stop by. I am not paid to advertise...I just blog about what's going on. I took these pic's 2 days ago. Stop by for decorating ideas.

Ukulele Camp

Sunday, August 4, 2013

This weekend is also the Oakridge Ukulele Festival. I participated in a free class for beginners. I decided to purchase the special songbook created for the festival. This artwork of Hilda practicing her guitar is really cute. I have been sitting on the patio with my Ukulele, practicing daily for a few months. I am having so much fun. The Ukulele is easy to play...if you know the guitar, it is really easy. A cute, fun, and inexpensive (all price levels) instrument. The kids would love to have one to learn on...along with you.

These small painted ukuleles can be found for under $30 new.  I got mine at a thrift store for $10. You will need a tuner, and sometime a package deal is available. A case, tuner, and Ukulele for under $50...online. If you are incredibly lucky, maybe someone you know will give you one to start on.

This songbook is my favorite. I know most of the songs, and all the verses are included. I recommend this book, for the ukulele player and for the singers to use for the words. There are many online resources available for free, and take advantage of what is out there.

Oakridge Keg and Cask Festival

Saturday, August 3, 2013

My small town has started a new festival, Keg and Cask. The purpose is to celebrate Microbreweries and Vineyards in Lane County. A small start, this being the 2nd or 3rd summer. I am sure that the event will continue to grow.

Admission was free, so that one can visit the craft vendors and enjoy the entertainment at no cost. That is a rarity in many places. It cost $15 to enjoy the adult beverages. These two entertainers were good, who would think that a ukulele and a violin make a band....and with the young woman's beautiful vocals................I enjoyed them very much.

This is a photo of a small number of folks enjoying themselves this evening.

Too Many Zukes

Thursday, August 1, 2013

Help! I am home alone with all kinds of zuckes...the squash of course... I think that I will start with the all time favorite. Double Chocolate Chip Zucchini Cake, everyone loves it and it freezes very well. Doesn't it look good! There are several recipes on the internet, mine uses buttermilk.
