A Furminator for Radar

Thursday, March 27, 2014

I just got one of these for Radar, a Black Lab shedding machine.....I am facing yet another spring shedding. The hair, the hair, sweeping, swiffer, and vacumn really get a workout.  Every time I turn around there is black hair.  So I thought, what about trying the Furminator. If I don't like it, I will return it. They a pretty expensive, I recommend checking Amazon for a good price.

My review - ***** 5 stars  Wonderful, in just a few minutes I removed a pile of black hair.  I will keep it, and use it often until he is shed of his winter coat.

Country Gardens Spring 2014

Monday, March 24, 2014

I recently received this issue in the mail. I am a subscriber, and enjoy this particular publication.  I have read this issue cover to cover and really enjoyed all the articles. This is one of the better issues. There are 10 pages dedicated to the Violet, mainly....the uses for food. There are recipes included. I also enjoyed the smaller article on Stinging Nettles, and the uses as a medicinal plant. I remember the pain that this plant transfers to bare arms. I don't know where any Nettles grow around here, so I won't be trying the recipes. The magazine has a cover price of $4.99.......not bad. This issue should be available until May 13.

Stitched Bits...Fun to Do!

Monday, March 17, 2014

I love to create things, and these necklaces are right on! A friend sent me a message with this photo attached...boy it is love at first sight. Fun, Unique and Personalized!!! I can get out little saved trims, buttons, charms, lace, whatever ideas that come to me. There is no right or wrong, I love that. Totally in the Soul Comfort class, the stitching part. Enjoy!

How to catch a Chickadee without trying...

Saturday, March 15, 2014

OK...see....I received this cute feeder as a gift. I filled it with black oil sunflower seeds. The seeds were nearly gone and I had not realized it. A hungry little Chickadee flew inside the feeder, and was trapped inside. The little fellow was flying up inside the jar. The rescue involved slowly removing the metal tray and ta-da a free bird. This is a design problem for small birds. I think that I can put something...screening maybe to solve the problem.

Rufous Hummingbirds are Back

Monday, March 10, 2014

I enjoy feeding and watching the Rufous Hummingbirds that migrate here every year. There are some locations in Oregon where the tiny birds are year-around resident's....but not here.  I got home from Dutch Oven Cooking on Saturday about 1230 pm and I noticed the first one. Luckily, I put up a feeder just a few days before..........I always put up a feeder about March 1st. The birds are unlikely to find nectar and flowers right now. I think that I probably have some of the same birds here from last summer. They know where the food is and really use it. This is interesting that I have them at this elevation 2500', but it can be expected when this reliable food is available,

Elk and Mountain Lions...Oh My!

Wednesday, March 5, 2014

The weather is bad enough right now.  Then add to that the 150+ Roosevelt Elk that roam all over this area. They eat all our forage to the ground and attract the Mountain Lions. There are both here right now. Hubby saw the Mountain Lion tracks on our place (there are 2). A call from a neighbor told us that there have been sightings of the Mountain Lions from the road, and they like to use a brushy area beside us to hide themselves. Another neighbor lost all his chickens this week to Mountain Lions....jumping into and out off his chicken yard, right in the middle of the day. I told hubby this is why I don't have chickens. I noticed that the deer are really watching and listening the sounds around them. Those big cats need to eat some of the elk! There are way too many elk. Oh, speaking of elk, I saw 4 big bull elk right behind our house, very nervous, they all had huge antlers on them........now hubby is training the dog to sniff out and retrieve antlers....and there is good pay for antlers to sell them. However, he can't chance losing the dog to a big cat.

The Brother is Out of the Hospital

Tuesday, March 4, 2014
not my brother...from pinterest
His is not home...he is in a rehab care center. He will be in a bed until his pelvis and hip are healed  well enough to walk with a cane. His out of the woods now, with a minor complication that is over. He is fairly close to his home....and that will make it easier to keep up with his home and pet. A long haul for the next 8 to 10 weeks.

Some Like it Hot

Monday, March 3, 2014

Hi!  Remember this movie?  Some Like it Hot? It is an all girl band, only two of these girls are men.  Really funny, a classic that I enjoy watching.

I was looking for some great old photos to add to my collection, these certainly fit with bill. I am going to do some crafting using old photos with ukuleles.

I have been practicing playing my ukulele everyday this winter...while it is raining and yucky outside. I am improving quite a bit. I want to go to a Ukulele Workshop near Portland at the end of March. I haven't decided. Hubby is not supportive.  I want to go because I think that I will learn new things, that will help me get better. Hum................to decide.........maybe just a few private lessons would be better...........
