Fixing Up Furniture

Thursday, January 28, 2016
This is from Pinterest
I have thinking and planning a slight change in my studio. I plan to remove the twin size bed, and add some storage areas. I have been looking around at shelves, and hutches. Many of the hutches are very large, and heavy looking...not what I would want. Something very large and imposing will not work in the smallish room. This photo is my inspiration, to refinish a wood item with chalk paint. Now, I need to find the right project.

Bee Keeping

Tuesday, January 26, 2016

I took this photo yesterday, a beautiful sunny January Day. The bee hives are inside a chain link dog kennel, it works to keep most animals out, however a bear would have no problem getting into the bees. It is warm, by winter standards...about 55 F during the day, and above freezing at night. I was attempting to take a short video for a friend. I did not succeed with the video....but I will try again. The weather forecast is to snow a little next weekend.  It is very quiet here, except for a little elk hunting.

Crafting My Girl Scout Bag

Thursday, January 21, 2016

Girl Scouts did have a green bag just like this one, but it had a Girl Scout logo instead of the Red Cross on my bag. I haven't found a GS bag...so this one will do for my project. I got out my needle and thread...and hand sewed these patches on it. I can remove the patches at any time. This nice, roomy, cross-body bag will be great for Flea Markets. Cute, unique, and all mine!    :)

Life Lessons and Change

Monday, January 18, 2016
I think about my life experiences, and I believe that as we each live our lives, that we do change. It is expected and natural...life lessons....if we didn't change, life would be pretty boring. We grow in many ways, learn difficult lessons, have regrets, and have wonderful people and experiences. I could never go back to the person I once was.

Vintage 1949 Skiing Metal

Saturday, January 16, 2016

I found this one-of-a-kind vintage 1949 skiing metal at the thrift store a few days ago. I took a close look at it....and you know me....for a couple of dollars it came home with me. I am not certain what I will do with it. In time the ideas will come to me. For now, I am going to display it. I am really looking for a Boy Scout kerchief slide. There were so many made that I think I will find one.

I am always on the watch for vintage Girl Scout stuff. I don't want to use my personal items for crafting, they are my own collectibles. I will display them. I have found 2 old books. I purchased some GS badges last year and now have a project for them. Coming up soon.....

Vintage Pillowcases into Tote or Tea Towel

Thursday, January 14, 2016

I enjoy finding these nice bits of the past, when women had the time and loved to make crafted items for their homes. Most women embroidered their own pillowcases, and table runners. I have been enthralled with the handwork and beauty of the items...therefore I have collected quite a few pretty little works of art. In fact, yesterday I found 4 vintage pillowcases for $2 total. They are in good condition overall...just a bit of yellow stain on them. I am thinking that I might remake them into a tote, similar to this one. Except I will not patchwork them, I will cut the embroidery and crochet edges off at about 10" to use for the outside. I envision two of the pieces used on each side, and the remainder of the good cotton for the body, handles, and lining. Another winter project....oh what will I ever do!

This is another cute idea from an Etsy shop. She used purchased tea towels, and sews the vintage embroidery to them. This is pretty much a decorative towel. I know that the towel wouldn't last in my house. I will not be doing this project.

My Paperwhites 2016

Wednesday, January 13, 2016

I took these photos today, to show you the real pics from my home. I planted the blooming pot in the top photo about December 1. The bottom pic shows a pot planted about January 5th. The bulbs were showing an inch of green when planted. You can see that the center bulb has really popped up. The bulbs are in an orchid pot that has many air holes on the sides, I put a ziplock bag inside with a hole in the base and top cut off to the height of the pot. Why? I had this pot on hand to transplant an orchid in to....so I just used this one until I get around to the orchid sometime later.

A Dazzling Winter Sunrise

Sunday, January 10, 2016

I took these photos last week. One morning I opened my eyes just in time to see the most beautiful sunrise. I jumped out of my warm bed, and got my cell phone...the light changed a little before I took these shots. The sky was very pink and red, and then it became a little lighter. The darker top pic is looking toward the south, and the lighter photos are looking east. The snow has been in the ground for a several weeks now.

I live in the Cascade Mountains of Oregon, at an elevation of 2500 feet. It snows here often in the winter.

Growing Paperwhites

While I went antiquing before Christmas, one of my favorite shops had just started a bunch of Paperwhites. They had used individual bulbs singly in old silver creamer and sugar containers. Wow, I thought...I have a bunch of those old containers and could do the exact thing. I purchased 6 large bulbs at a nearby nursery. I got home and decided to use an old bucket that I had painted with white milk paint, and drilled some holes in the bottom for planting. There was just enough room to get the 6 bulbs into the bucket, and I used potting soil. I have a lovely container of blooming Paperwhites on the dining table as I type this.  And....I just planted another pot of bulbs.....for several weeks from now.

Mt Hood...Oregon

Wednesday, January 6, 2016

Mount Hood is a symbol of Oregon, the end of the Oregon Trail went right beside this semi-dormant volcano. The largest city, Portland, looks right at this mountain to the east. This moon is so unusual for photo of the mountain. This photo suggests peace and wonder at the beauty of nature. This iconic mountain is a place where mountaineers test themselves this time of year, and unfortunately many have died by the fierce storms that claim the mountain during the winter. Yes, lovely but deadly.
