Memorial Day Tribute

Normandy Graves

My grandfather's brother, Archie Hawley went fervently, naively, and bravely to fight in WWI. He was with some of the first troops in France.

I read the last letter his newly wedded wife wrote to him, but never sent. I had a great curiosity when reading the contents. They were planning the life that they were going to lead when he returned. I thought....why would he volunteer for serving in the war? Things were very different 100 years ago.

She received the notice that he was killed in action in France...a young man from the small farming town of Moscow, Idaho. Everything changed in an instant, the planned life was never to happen.

A first hand account from one of his fellow soldiers said that "one minute Archie was beside him, and in an instant, Archie was gone when the bomb went off".
He had a huge soldiers funeral...I saw photos of the funeral...he was the first hometown hero of WWI.

My own Dad was in the Air Force in WWII. He flew the very dangerous bombing missions over Europe. His silk scarf with the map of Europe is still is the family.

My family history in the USA goes back to the 1660's, and am certain that the men fought the Revolutionary War, and the Civil War,

This is just a few words of tribute to everyone who has served this country, and made and kept this wonderful county free.

Catmint - a new plant to try

Friday, May 26, 2017

I just purchased 2 new Catmint plants. These plants are purported to be effective against Deer.

This is a review I found. It seems that deer detest this pretty blue flower.

Catmint is a super-hardy perennial that’s not only deer resistant but drought resistant as well. It’s a standout in containers, beds, or borders. Cut it back hard after that first flush of brilliant purple flowers, and you’ll be rewarded with another bloom before the end of the season.

Time for a Break

Wednesday, May 24, 2017
I think that is high time to take my vintage trailer out of storage for the first 2017 Girl Camp Oregon. I would go after the Memorial Day Weekend. I think that the campgrounds will have room for some gals to stay a couple of nights.

Live Your Truth!

Sunday, May 21, 2017

Think of a time when you knew FOR SURE, for sure for sure, for SURE that you were experiencing truth. Think of that feeling, that peace, that knowing

What does truth feel like?

Truth feels good and peaceful and warm, even with the truth is a hard reality.

Truth is peace, and truth is light being shed on darkness.

Truth eliminates confusion and loves the beauty of life, in all of its forms.

Live your truth. Speak your truth. Embrace your truth. CARRY YOUR TRUTH with you and try your VERY HARDEST to never let anything or anyone sway you away from your truth. If your tr
uth is hard to find, seek it out. Do whatever it takes to hold hands with your truth.

Your truth is one of the only things that is truly yours. You have your truth, you have your story, and you have choice. Please use them all wisely.

You are incredibly brave and absolutely beautiful. And you are so very loved. Don't ever forget it.

Be a Smart Woman

Thursday, May 18, 2017

Yes, I made this deal with myself long ago, and I stick with it. A former friend was very unkind to me. She is now unfriended and blocked.

I will not put up with anyone talking trash to me about me...the end. Oh, and BTW, I hope that you read this Deana Wolfe.

Don't Quit

Wednesday, May 17, 2017
Dear Healing Girl,

Keep trying. Keep at it. Keep believing. Keep showing up. (especially when you don't want to)

When it gets tough....give yourself a little break while telling yourself that as soon as the break is over...it's time to keep trying, keep at it, keep believing and keep showing up.

There is not really an easy solution or fast road to the deepest work of life...it is just all about showing up day after day and doing what you can with each day and then letting the rest go. It's about making every day a brand new day and continuously sorting sorting sorting what is good from what is best....and only choosing what is best.

Don't you dare quit, sweet friend. You have come too far and done too much work to quit now. Stop and have some fun, stop and take a break...notice the goodness along the way......but just don't quit.

It's going to be worth it. You will see.

You are so very loved.
xoxo

Boundaries

Tuesday, May 16, 2017

"One of the most powerful things we can do it is to stand in our very own skin and proclaim out loud what we will and will not allow...what we will and will not believe in...what we will and will not fight for, or fight about....what we will and will not accept as truth for our life or ourselves."   Brave Girls Club

Rosemary in the Garden

Saturday, May 13, 2017

My Rosemary plants did not fare well over the winter. There just was too much deep snow, cold, and rain. Most of plants died, and I am left with brown and dead plants. These things happen to all gardeners at times.

I looked at new starts at a nursery. Tiny, 4" stems in a pot for $3-4. I am not purchasing a tiny start!

I have rooted Rosemary cuttings in water a few years ago. OK, so it is back to the frugal method. Today, I got 10 new cuttings from a friend's beautiful plant...that I have admired. It has really nice blooms!

I removed all the leaves from the bottom 2" of the cuttings, and put only the bottoms into fresh water to root. They should start roots in about 2 weeks.

A generous friend with a nice plant and some gardening skill is all that I need.

Sparkling Girl - Brave Girls Club Daily Message

Thursday, May 11, 2017
Dear Sparkling Girl,

Not everyone is going to understand you, or understand your ways. Not everyone is going to understand your heart, your tenderness, your intentions. Not everyone is going to "get" you. Not everyone is going to appreciate you. Not everyone is going to see you, notice you and recognize you. Not everyone is going support you.

Beautiful friend, don't let ANY of that stop you.

We have to do the things we know to do, the things our hearts ache to do. We have to do those things in the ways that only WE can do them, in the ways that are most authentic & most truth-filled for each of us.

When we do things from a soul-deep place, we must find our validation from the Source of those things -- not from what others on the outside think about what we are doing or how we are doing it.

People who do things from their souls SPARKLE and will attract other SPARKLING people. Let it go if there are those who can't stand the brightness of your sparkle. Shine on. And then shine and shine and shine.

You were BORN to shine, you were born to sparkle.

You are so very loved.

xoxo

The Princess in Disneyland

Thursday, May 4, 2017

Girls weekend....go to Disneyland!

Meanwhile...I am home alone taking care of the farm. The surprise heatwave 90 F is killing me. I can't take the heat and there is so much work to do outdoors. My sunscreen is working well, but the old body is hurting, feet, neck, and my eyes. I have had so many things go wrong, like I think that the tomato plants fried today.....and the dog barfed inside....need I say more? Ugh!

And....I don't even want to talk about the riding lawnmower!

August 21, 2017 Solar Eclipse

Tuesday, May 2, 2017

The news media (in this area) is starting to get everyone excited about the total solar eclipse coming in August. My farm is about 75 miles south of the best viewing area, shown in yellow on this map of the USA. The Oregon Tourism Commission is expecting many thousands of visitors coming to Oregon for this unusual event. I have heard reports that accommodations are high priced and mostly sold out already. The Oregon State Parks are sold out in that area also.

The last one over the USA was about 40 yrs ago. I don't remember it in the late 1970's. Maybe it was raining...I don't know.

Well, I decided to order some of the viewing shades...as in the first photo. I plan on viewing the eclipse this time!
