Prairie Flower - The May Campout
Friday, May 31, 2013
Hi Everybody, I just go these pics off my camera to show them to you. These are from the May campout. This is how I had things then...of course I am changing things around and getting ideas to improve and enhance the interior of Prairie Flower. This is the table / bed. I will probably keep it made up as a bed because during the summer I will use an outdoor table.
Things are sorta arranged...the upper bunk is my storage area. I have extra sleeping bag, and other assorted stuff up there...see my ukulele and cowgirl boots?
This is a photo I took several months ago. The table / bed area and bunk.

I posted about using vintage items to create fun hanger covers. I had 2 of these pillowcases that I purchased for 50 cents. I also have several of the old wooden clothes hangers. It was raining very hard all last week, so I crafted quite a bit. I am putting these in Prairie Flower to use. The nice thing about the cotton covers is that your tops stay on the hangers and don't slide off like they do on plastic hangers.
I used an old embroidered and crocheted edge tablecloth as a cutter. It was in pretty bad shape, stains and hand work coming out. I used the best half to make a double faced window covering for the trailer. That means that the floral fabric faces to the inside of the trailer, and that the vintage tablecloth faces the exterior. It worked out well, and the sun will not be a fading problem on the interior.

I found this pic on pinterest. I think that this trailer belongs to a Sisters on the Fly member. I think that the bed is amazing, very unique. There are many small details to check out. The theme is fun! International Glamping Weekend is just a day away,

OK, it is quite a while off.. November in fact. It is a session for second time campers, not just a repeat. I wish that the date is earlier in the year...then I would tow Prairie Flower and camp on the way to Boise. The weather normally turns into fall by then...and if may not be a practical idea to tow a travel trailer. I will just wait and see.....

Yummy treats to make yourself. I found this photo and blog from pinterest. I want to share with you some good food. The recipe is from www.thebakerupstairs.com. I think that these will be good in a dutch oven when camping.

The long holiday weekend is before us. Let us remember the men and women who fought for this nation. The patriots who bravely served, and the folks who stayed home to keep the nation running. The United States of America. The greatest nation on earth. I will be flying my flag proudly, I am an American Patriot!

The past 2 days have been very stormy, and weather will be the same for several more days. I was looking for pretty photos on Pinterest. This one captured my eye, I found it lovely, and enchanting. I saw warmth, sun, and pleasant days. I think of a cold drink, a good book, making music, and taking a lazy afternoon nap. No distractions, no phone, no loud cars or lawn mowers, no other people, no pets, no cooking or cleaning or laundry. Just blissfully enjoying myself ...........I am sure that you understand.
What?!! Snow?!!! YES
Yes, the weather is frightful, and the garden is suffering....33 degrees and 3 inches of snow. Yuck!!
A good day to sew and craft inside. I made some hanger covers, just like the ones a featured a few days ago. So cold for the end of May.

This faire is terrific. I always go, even if it is very hot outside. I have a problem this year...2 activities on the same date...and I can't be both places. What's a girl to do? If you live in Oregon be sure to visit Molly Mo's....you will love it!!

Having a vintage square dance petticoat is not required for Sisters on the Fly, but...some sisters have a collection. Some have 20+!!! Anyway, I have been watching the thrift stores for petticoats. I have wanted one to hang in my studio for a long time. I have seen them priced about $25 at some thrift stores. However, my fortune changed this week. The whole story is that I wanted a Krispy Kream Doughnut, when I was in Portland, and saw a great big Salvation Army store across the parking lot. I had time to go there and check the store out. OK, great, and then I found out that a 1/2 price sale for everything in the store. Wow...I love that! I regularly look at the women's slips for a petticoat. Well, I didn't see anything.............then my eye saw something underneath all the hanging items. You should have guessed, a lavender vintage petticoat!!! I grabbed it so fast, looked it over for condition, and the size. It was meant to be, great condition and large enough for me! But wait....let me tell you the price....$6.99 and then 1/2 off, I got it for $3.50!!! OMG!
I have 2 long petticoats from my daughter's formal dresses hanging around here, I am going to remake one into a short style to wear under the lavender one. That will make a really full, fun, look for Sisters on the Fly occasions.

I bring to you an idea for using a little of my vintage linen stash. I purchase vintage embroidery, because it is still pretty inexpensive and I love the beauty. I also do not want to take hours of hand work needed to do it myself. These lovely hanger covers were re-purposed. These may have been made from pillowcases. These will make a friend happy to receive as a gift. The special items that touch a woman's heart...lovely.
This week at Monticello Antiques, Portland Oregon
I made a trip north to Portland this week. I had to visit Monticello Antique Mall and Fabric Depot. I got a few pics to show you. I purchased some things there: A 1930's salt and pepper of flowers in a pot, and two floral enamelware dishes. These are for Prairie Flower.

My dear Mother has been gone for 17 years now. Time has eased my pain...I don't tear up about her anymore. I do miss her and wished that she had a longer life... and that my daughter had her grandma longer. Oh Boy, she would have loved these boots!!

A big thank you to my dear sister Lorri for the information to put me on the path, she quickly researched the photos and sent me her opinion. Meanwhile I purchased this reference book. Fritillaria affinis, also identified as Fritillaria lanceolata. This book is much better than the books that I used yesterday. I recommend it for anyone interested in botany. The mystery is solved.
A Rare Wildflower - Checker Lily
I found this wildflower today. I don't know the name, and all my books do not have it listed. Therefore, I conclude that it is a rare plant. I will show a photo to a botanist friend at the Middle Fork Ranger District.

We each made a small crafted plate featuring our trailer. This was a unique and fun crafting idea.
Cute!! I think that I will hang it in Prairie Flower.

I just got home from the Sisters on the Fly event. I dressed up Prairie Flower with a few cute items. I want to thank Deana for making the lettering for the sign. The name sign is fun! There were 10 Sisters attending...all with trailers. A great time was had by all, we didn't know each other and everyone shared their stories, ideas, and dreams. Of course I will be bringing you much more.

I am slowing down posting on the blog. My reason... there is just a lot going on this time of year. The farm gets busy, and the garden is calling. I am leaving for my first Sisters on the Fly Campout in the morning. There will be about 15 Sisters bringing their vintage trailers. We will all be going to the Festival on May 4th. You can bet we will be "havin more fun than anyone"! I am ready, my trailer "Prairie Flower" is ready. It is going to be 85 degrees...the warmest day this area has had since last October.
The coming post will be all about the trip!!!
