Prairie Flower Pics 2017 - #2

Thursday, October 12, 2017

Well, OK, it is blurry, I am sorry about the poor quality of this photo. This is the kitchen area at the back of my 1963 Aloha. I love the birch paneling, not painting it ever! The door is on the left side and is open to let extra light inside. The right side is the closet door that you saw in the last post. The stove has an oven that does not work. I store stuff in there. I do have a turquoise stove in the shop to restore and it will look pretty in here.

There is a vintage red polka dot enamel tea kettle, several mugs, and floral bowl in this photo.

Prairie Flower Pics 2017 - #1

Tuesday, October 10, 2017

I know that many of you would like to get a tour of Prairie Flower. She is pretty plain on the outside. The interior is completely different...I have made the trailer into my personal retreat. I like a Retro, Boho, Gypsy, and Camping look. How does that combine? Please take a look...and remember I change things around frequently. I am a junker, and I find things to put to use in my trailer....

This is the back corner, and opposite the outside door. Kitchen area, and this is the door to the closet, storage, and porta potty area. I believe that the stove and mirror are the original 1963 fixtures.

More to come..............

Mini Electric Fireplace

Saturday, September 16, 2017
from Juli Thorson

One of the Girl Camping women, Juli Thorson, shared her mini fireplace electric heater on facebook. It is a tiny fireplace that puts out enough heater for a small vintage travel trailer. It sits on the kitchen stove, decorated as you wish. They cost about $50 on-line. I would like to get one to use in Prairie Flower, when I have electricity in the fall, or cold spring. I imagine that sleeping with this glowing would be terrific. Cute!!

Vintage Aloha Trailer Repair

Wednesday, March 9, 2016
This photo is from the day I purchased the 1963 Aloha Travel Trailer.

Today, the window is removed in this photo.

Yesterday I was watching a Utube video showing how to repair the back window in my trailer, Prairie Flower. I watched 3 videos in all, to see the complete process. My trailer was restored....but the back window had a problem with bad window screen, the person who restored the trailer took a shortcut with the screen. They cut out the bad screen and put a window screen patch on it. I am getting bugs into the trailer when I open the window. The entire window/screen unit must be removed to replace the screen.

Today, I decided to start on removing the window. I will not be going camping for some time. I followed the directions from the video, and the window came right out. I cleaned up the dirt and goo around the frame. All is good, no sign of wood rot...nice and dry. I am happy that these vintage trailers were made with the ability of DIY repairs.

Next step in this process, locate the proper screen and supplies to put it back together. There is a small trailer and RV repair shop, and I know that they will have what I need. This is important to me. I want to feel empowered to take on more projects with the trailer.

Vintage West Bend Ovenette..and where to get a manual

Friday, March 4, 2016

I have been looking at oven options for my trailer. The oven in the original stove does not work. I have considered many things to try. I could always bring along one of my camping dutch ovens....but that means, a whole bunch of stuff  A big bunch of stuff...and charcoal. All that stuff equals too much extra weight and fuss.

This is a West Bend Ovenette, a stove top model, from the 1950's. The vintage trailer community talks about using these. The National Serro Scotty Organization has information on their website. Heck....they even have cooking competitions using them. This link is to their website, and directly to the Ovenette information.

I purchased one from an Ebay seller. Now I am committed to use it.

Vintage Women with Trailers

Thursday, May 7, 2015

Hi, all of my Girlfriends! This is a photo of me...taken a few days ago. I am inside an old school bus that is now a mobile Antique Shop.  We went to six different locations to find some good junk. Me?? I came home with a pretty cut glass perfume sprayer. Really pretty...and only $5 at a flea market. A small container of Anne Sloan chalk paint to try on a project. The weekend glamping trip was really great. I did not try the outdoor shower, because they ran out the propane used to heat the water.

Here are some photos of our trailers, there were 27 trailers tucked in together. It is a good thing that the trailers are all pretty small.

My trailer is third from the right.

My trailer, Prairie Flower is third from the right, white with a little yellow, and has a small front overhang....see me?

It is Time to Come Out and Play

Wednesday, April 29, 2015

The Aloha Trailer on the left is mine! The Terry on the right is the big one Hubby and I use together. The sizes are very different 13 feet compared to 27 feet. The big Terry is a cabin on wheels.

Today, I hooked up my 1963 Aloha (Prairie Flower) and took her out of the shop for the first time this year.  I needed to go inside and take care of a few things. I stored my camping gear inside her during the off season...so some things are not needed for the weekend and came out for right now. I still need to check the tires for proper inflation. I used to stop by the local tire center and the young men there would do this....but no more, the place is shuttered...closed. I do not have water tanks, so no checking water lines or un-winterizing them.

I cleaned and made up the bed with fresh linens last fall. I washed all the dishes, etc. and stored them inside plastic totes last fall. I put all the food in a plastic tote inside the house.

I had two incidents with one mouse, each time, last summer...and there is no sign of any rodents now.  This is good, because I spent time last summer to close up any tiny place where there might be entry. I am hopeful that it is a success. It is a big deal, to trap them and then cleanup the whole trailer and get under the trailer to find any spot that might be an entry place. I know that both times the mouse got inside while parked in the shop.

Well, I hope that I got it done....but, I still have two mouse traps stored under the sink, in case. The Girl Scout Motto, Be Prepared.  I didn't have any traps with me at the time...and none of my Camptown Girls had any with them. It was a bummer! I had to travel to the nearest town to get some. I did not care to hear one mouse running around when I was trying to sleep. To tell you the truth the first night I heard something, but wasn't sure. The second night the noise was more and I knew. I trapped it on the third night. I really don't want that experience again................ugh. When I removed all the copper pipes, there were holes between cabinets and that was a perfect spot for the mouse to move thru, these are now all covered with metal screwed into place. I also found three holes to the exterior that went through the floor. These are currently covered with metal and screws holding them in place, inside and outside.....I am not taking any chances. (You know what....I did not have this happen during the summer 2013. This is why I was shocked last summer.)

Vintage Surfing Tablecloth

Saturday, November 22, 2014

You probably know that I love vintage tablecloths and other textiles. These items are very attractive to me, and much so when they are made in the USA 70 years ago. They do survive, and I find them from time to time in thrift stores. My Sis took me to an out of the way store in a very small town. My eye's are always looking for this kind of thing...they are well trained. This cloth is small, about a 36" square. My friend Debbie has her trailer decorated in a Tiki theme, and this is perfect for her....next time I see her she is going to get this one. I owe her an I'm sorry gift (for something I accidentally broke).

Maybe you are like me....and love to see how gals have fixed up their vintage trailers. These are the first photos I have seen from Tickleberry Farm's new to her trailer (and they are blurry...sorry). Here is a link for you...Tickleberry Farm

Wow, I give this trailer a thumbs up!

I found this pic on pinterest. I think that this trailer belongs to a Sisters on the Fly member. I think that the bed is amazing, very unique. There are many small details to check out. The theme is fun!  International Glamping Weekend is just a day away, and I am stuck at home with the GOM (grouchy old man), should be loads of misery.....Please save me...........Ouch! Wail! I need a stiff drink.......

Hum....A 1963 Aloha...Restored!

Sunday, February 3, 2013
I found it...a restored trailer! Nearby, only 2 hours from here, near Bend. When the mountain pass is in good condition, and I have the registration renewed...It will be brought home. Coming soon, more pixs! An Oregon manufactured travel trailer, who woulda guessed. It is hard to believe that I found one, it might have taken months. A gal got it from a restorer, had it 2 years and used it 3 times. I am going to use it! You can bet! I am so excited!
