Is It hard to write blog posts?

Friday, February 27, 2015

I don't know about you, but sometimes it is really difficult to write blog posts. There might be very little to write about, or somethings that don't feel right. That said, Girlfriends....I am experiencing a bit of writers block and lack of inspiration as of late. I have noted that many of us who write personal blogs seem to be in a funk right now. The blogs that are written for business keep on posting nearly daily. But...you know what? I get tired of these blogs, so commercial and pretty blah, blah, blah. I have started "un-following" them. I have been enjoying the simplicity of pinterest. I admit that I like "eye candy".  And....I really need to complete the dreaded income taxes....and wash the windows. too. So much fun.....not. I guess that kinda explains things. I think that I will bake some Brownies!

Early Planting in the Garden

Wednesday, February 25, 2015

This week I found some vegetable starts, the cabbage family, some garlic, onions and strawberries. I purchased two 6-packs, one Packman Broccoli, and one Brociflower. It is very early for here in western Oregon, and the temps have been low at night...about 24F, however the daytime's are sunny and warm 62F.  So...this is a trial, or experiment for me.  I planted them directly into a prepared raised bed. I used floating row cover right over them for extra cold protection, and topped the bed with these portable cold frames. I am interested in learning how these will grow and produce. Season extending methods are something I have been reading about. The weather forecast is for a chance of a little snow over the weekend, maybe an inch. That should be no problem with this set-up.

Where have I been? Working in the Garden!

Saturday, February 21, 2015

The West Coast has been having a warm, dry winter. The spring bulbs are beginning to bloom, and the flowering plum. The lilac bushes are leafing out. I put out the hummingbird feeder today. I am hard at work...cleaning out the garden, trellising the Marion berries, cutting back plants, and today- cleaning out all the birdhouses. I am anticipating an early spring...all the plants seem to be about 6 weeks early. To me this means that the fruit trees will bloom very early...there may not be any bees to pollinate them...then there will be a hard frost, killing any possible baby fruit. I need to do much more, and am taking it one day at a time, one project at a time.  I expect the migratory birds to be back soon, hence the hummingbird food. I heard the wild Turkey's gobbling today, they must think that it will be time to start laying eggs. Friends who have hens say that they a laying really well. The newborn calves are running around together and playing in the green grass pastures. I am hoping that weather will turn to normal, and we will receive the normal wet spring.

My condolences to all of you having a long cold snowy winter. It has been terrible from what I see in the national news.

Vintage Southwest American Jewelry

Thursday, February 12, 2015

Do you like the look and feel of vintage jewelry? I sure do. Do you know that shopping for these items at thrift stores is fun, and I love a hunt for beautiful, and unique jewelry....at bargain prices.  When looking for these items it is best to start at a good Antique Shop that specializes in SW silver jewelry. Why, because you can become educated...by carefully looking at pieces, looking at the marks and the differences in items. The prices are an idea of the dealers estimate of value. Go to several shops and learn from each. Look online, but I don't buy items, I have been misled by photos.

I have found and purchased these two vintage bracelet's at thrift stores since the beginning of 2015. I am particular, and only select the special things that I will enjoy wearing. I found the sunflower bracelet just on Tuesday.... Happy Valentines Day to me.

Spring Blooms

Thursday, February 5, 2015

It is time to think about spring and flowers. I saw a neighbor's daffodils starting to bloom today. I have some Viola's beginning to bloom....self sown in some strange areas. I dig them up and transplant to spots near the front door. Well, I decided to bring some indoors....and put them where I will enjoy these pretty little blooms.  I will keep them indoors for a week or so, then outside

Remember You Are Strong

Wednesday, February 4, 2015

Remember that you are strong, brave, and have many abilities. My great friends at Brave Girls Club send me a message daily (not this one)....because many of us have not received this message when growing up...and as women. We have been told many things that are not true. I will stand up, and I will be brave and strong.

Birthday Weekend for Me

Sunday, February 1, 2015

This card is older than me, but I love it!

I celebrated my Birthday over the weekend. My daughter Nicole, and her hubby, Bryan came to stay for 2 days. I did not plan an event.  We stayed home most of the time. We did go out to Outback Steakhouse last night. I truly enjoyed a relaxing time with my family. I loved just being together for awhile.
