Making Fabulous Jewelry?

I am thinking about making my own jewelry.  I have seen such wonderful and creative things made by crafty women. I have started collecting some old jewelry items at the second hand stores and garage sales...real cheap. I just don't want to buy expensive things at the craft store for starting out and practice. I have a small shoe box full now, I guess it is time to get inspired. I need to just start. These photos are very pretty... and just the things that I like.

I also like to go to the outlet stores about 2 times a year.  2 days ago I did just that, and stopped at the Fossil Store. They had bunches of nice handbags, and tons of watches. There were also several jewelry displays. I found 2 really nice necklaces (that I loved) at 80% off retail, I know that I could never make these for that price (jewelry stuff is so expensive). So..maybe crafting jewelry is just a silly idea.

My Method to Make Bread, the No Knead Way.

I have this free booklet from Fleischmann's Yeast and this is my favorite way to make bread. I like no knead bread with the artisan taste and texture. Hubby loves it.

To get your own copy, go to breadbreakthrough. I like the cover recipe, Easy Oat Bread.  I'm not a good bread maker, but this recipe is one that comes out for me.   This no knead method does take planning ahead, because it uses a long rise, 15 to 28 hours, then a second rise of 2 to 4 hours.  There are alternative rises in the refrigerator, and rapid methods.

I have some rising in the refrigerator right now, to bake tomorrow.

The author also has a cookbook, Kneadlessly Simple, by Nancy Baggett.

Waiting for My White Pumpkins to Ripen

I found this fun collage of white pumpkins online. My dearest friend Deana gave me some white pumpkins last fall...she had found them in Idaho and brought them home for Halloween.  After Halloween she gave them to me, and I collected the seed. Now, I have about 10 growing in the garden, and they are getting pretty large.  I am watching them grow and hope that they mature in about 2-3 weeks, before a frost. Decorating with them is going to be such fun...and of course Deana will receive some from me.

I was just outside picking some sunflowers for a was almost dark...and it has started to rain a little. this is our first rain in about 90 days.

A new magazine has just arrived in the mail.  So you know, I decided to be High Prairie Farmgirl after this fabulous woman, Mary Jane Butters.  I have been following her for a long time.  I first heard of her from the farm and ranch oriented newspaper that we get.  Then I looked for her online, about her backpacking food. She has evolved into an empire of her own. I really want to stay at her B & B, at her farm.  I am on the waiting list for a possible opening next two weeks.  Maybe something will happen, I will be able to go. Hope!

Sewing Project - Teapot Cozy

I found this cute pattern today, at a Quilt Shop. I was looking for fabric crafts that I could make with all the fabrics that I have on hand.  I don't really want to undertake a quilt.  I just think that a nice teapot with a lovely Tea Cozy will make a nice gift. I should include some tea of course.

Moda makes fabric designs that I love, and I also recently purchased some vintage fabric at a church sale, or how about using some vintage embroidery for special spot. I have so many ideas.

Taking my Audi TT on a Triangle Lake Roadtrip, Highway 36 in the Coast Range.

Here she is - My 2001 Audi TT Roadster, "Hottie"

Highway 36 follows closely to this stream, Lake Creek.

There are many of these covered bridges when I drive backroads, and byways.

A small waterfall along Lake Creek.

An old tractor along the road, circa 1940's.

A peaceful place on the stream, it is just made for wading on a hot day.

I made this 5 hour round trip last week, on a 95 degree day. The trip has been on my to do list for several years, this was my first time across Highway 36. It was so nice... hardly any other drivers on the road. It is pretty shady, so with the top down I was enjoying the weather. I recommend this trip to my friends.  I think that it will be beautiful in about 6 weeks, when the leaves are all bright yellow, orange and red.  I may do it again, and bring someone with me.

God Bless America

I think that September 11, is a very important date in our history. Everything changed that day. I am across the continent from NY City, but I felt such a blow to my person...that I can recall it like yesterday. That night I had such vivid dreams..that I was hit by flying glass and was going to die.  I now know what my parents felt when Pearl Harbor happened. I am a patriot, and proud of my fellow Americans who share their love of this Great Nation the USA.

God Bless America!

My Patio Getaway

Radar and I are sitting in the best spot on the patio, under the umbrella, in a comfortable chair with cushions.

I like to sit in the wood chair, and use the old camp stool to put my legs on.

I use mostly herbs in this area, to keep the deer out.

The swimming pool, with the lavender blooming, the variety is Grosso.  Lavender is one plant the deer detest, and it is really easy to grow.
The neighbors' radio has not been on in the past 2 days. I am happy about it.

I just want to have a quiet place.

OK, I admit it...this post is a rant about my noisy neighbor. I just need to tell the story. I live in the rural Oregon countryside. There are two neighbors that we can see from our home. This neighbor is downhill a little and his garage is right on the property line, about 2 city blocks from my bedroom.  He has this thing that makes me crazy sometimes....he leaves his garage door wide open and leaves a radio boom box blasting as loud as possible. Now, understand this is often 24 hours a day, for days on end (the last month).  We just gave the electric company a legal easement so they could bury a new underground line to his home. (This work was just completed a week ago.)

Alright, on with the story.  The noise is annoying and rude, frankly. My husband will not do anything about it, period. Hubby doesn't want me too either.

Well, last night, I couldn't get to sleep because of the blasted racket from the neighbors radio.  I lay awake....plotting how to take care of the problem. Now, I really wanted to take a large sledge hammer to the radio, set it on fire, run over it with a large truck, you get the idea...that would have felt just plain good...don't ya think?  It was 11:10 pm, and I was really mad about this ongoing problem. So...I thought that if I couldn't sleep...he wasn't going to either. I phoned him, and woke him up. I nicely asked that he turn off the offending radio, he said that he would...and he did.  It is still off.  Maybe he got the idea!  I will keep calling in the middle of the night if necessary. It will probably take several calls for the ignorant man to figure it out...and I am just the woman to do it. I am a Brave Girl, and I will ask for what is right.

BTW, his wife has told him that the radio is rude, and it probably bothers us. Just wondering, what would you do?

It is Time to Cool Off!

The weather lately has been the hottest of the summer, in the 90's. So...what's a farmgirl to do? Play in the pool with my dog, of course. Here he is, jumping into the water...Radar really loves this.  I start the dog play with throwing a toy on dry land, until he is panting...then into the pool.  I like to sit on the side of the pool, wearing legs in the water. He splashes a bit, so...when I am pretty wet I stop.  Then I relax in the shade with my Nook, reading while I dry.  It is actually really nice! Check here for the Nook, I am happy with mine.

Review of Sisters on the Fly

I showed this book in a blog post a couple of weeks ago. I purchased a copy from my favorite online book seller. (  has very good prices and low shipping.)

I received the book on Monday, and I read it cover to cover that day. Then the next day I did it again. I also looked that all the photos several times too. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, I received a good idea of the fun that the group has.  The creative and wonderful ways that they each personalize their trailers. There is even a chapter on Dutch Oven Cooking with recipes...a real surprise for me.  There is a bigger surprise, I have been fixing up an old train case...that was in poor shape. Painting and decoupaging it with scrapbook papers, and vintage sewing trims. Guess what, they are doing the came thing! I expect that we will start seeing them at shops now. Well, it is a good idea..and fun to personalize! Start looking for your own to fix up, we will start a craze!
