Be Brave Today

This is a message from the Brave Girls Club. I receive them every day, and sometimes the message speaks just to me. I took and finished one of their online classes this year, and recommend them. The only thing is...to be completely committed to the class and taking the time to do the projects every week and be true to yourself. bravegirlsclub.com check it out. Be Brave today.

This is what it has been like the last week...absolutely beautiful! You Gotta Love August! The Artist Jan Eliot is from my area, I think she was inspired by the last month.

Ree Drummond, aka The Pioneer Woman, her new TV show started on Food Network this morning. My review, I like it very much. She is in her own kitchen, on the ranch in Oklahoma, with her family....and cooking some of her families favorite dishes. I am a fan...I have loved her blog for a long time, and I love her cookbook. I enjoyed the show, and the fact that it showed the family and some things other than just cooking.

This pretty bouquet that was at Molly Mo's last Saturday. I just love the color burst and variety of flowers in the blue Ball canning jar. I don't have much on my mind to blog about tonight...I hope that everyone is safe from Hurricane Irene on the east coast. I have a hard time thinking about 90 per hour winds for 10 hours, 10 inches of rain, the flooding, and storm surge. The losses will be enormous.
Saturday.. The Pioneer Woman cooking show on the Food Network begins..and I am really looking forward to seeing Ree Drummond on TV. Food Network

I just purchased this book, Taking Flight by Kelly Rae Roberts. Take a look at her blog kellyraeroberts.blogspot.com . I am feeling the need to do some art journaling and her book is my choice. Anyway, it is hot outside...and I will set up my table to use during the heat of the day.
My hubby and his old geezer friends are all out of town for the next 4 weeks. They are on their annual men's bow hunting camp. I well...do not care to go with them, and I stay home on the farm. Therefore, I am on a holiday at home.
I enjoy this very much, eat what I like, when I want, sleep when I want...the list goes on. Freedom to do what I like. Go to a movie, go to all the crafts stores (I did this...today!) and finish some projects.

I am headed north to go to Molly Mo's. It is a small, 20-25 vendors. The location is gorgeous, and the stuff is perfect. Love it. The site is not very far from my sister's home...so I will stay with her. Excited to drive my roadster too.

I am a Dutch Oven cook, always looking for ideas to make in a dutch oven. I found this idea in Ree Drummond's cookbook The Pioneer Woman Cooks. She calls it Patsy's Blackberry Cobbler, on pages 212 -213. I love her book because she creates food that we love, she has great photos and instructions.
1 stick melted butter
1 1/4 c, plus 2 T sugar
1 c self rising flour
1 c milk
2 c fresh or frozen berries (blackberry, marionberry, blueberry, peaches, etc)
Mix butter, 1 cup sugar, flour, and milk. Pour into a well buttered 10" dutch oven. Sprinkle the berries evenly over the batter. Sprinkle 1/2 c sugar over the top. Bake at 350, for about 40 minutes until golden brown. About 5 minutes before finishing the baking sprinkle 2 T sugar over the top.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, Yum!

I met Terrisa West at the Fall Creek Market Vintage Faire, last weekend. She specializes in Clothing as Art, and One of a kind Custom Designs.
The skirt that she is wearing is from many bits and pieces of vintage crochet, and lace, put together as many layers. Really cute! She also had other really fun pieces to select from. I think that she is so creative, and could take her work to magazines and be recognized. She can be reached at piratekwn@yahoo.com, and 541 505-4099. Good Luck Terrisa!

New book by Irene Rawlings |
I have read about Sisters on The Fly for some time now, mostly short magazine articles. I saw a TV show once that featured their wonderful trailers, and all the fun they have together. Many women now are finding these vintage trailers to restore and create a special place for themselves. I actually think that getting one fixed up and find a spot in the backyard during the nice season is a fun idea. A special little getaway in your own yard! I am getting a copy of this book...I love eye candy.

Today is such a quiet, peaceful, and warm day. A summer's day that is a treasure to enjoy. I did pick a large bunch of blooming lavender to put in a ceramic container inside. The scent and simple beauty are short lived, so I must enjoy them while I can. I grow about 10 lavender plants, they are easy to grow in full sun without much water. The ravenous deer do not eat them....ever.
I enjoyed time on the patio today. Since I retired...I took time to create a outdoor summer retreat just for me on the patio. I have a large concrete patio that is crumbling a bit...however some outdoor rugs, furniture, market umbrellas, solar lighting, a small water feature, and many potted plants make the spot inviting and lovely for me. There are two walls of the house enclosing it partly, hence I can hang things on the walls and "decorate" with the funky stuff I like. Old gardening tools, watering cans. benches, wall art, old windows, chair planters....I guess that you get the idea. The only thing missing is an outdoor bed, but the idea of bugs, spiders....creeps me out. Or....an outdoor bathtub, an old claw foot one to use on warm summer nights. Or....an outdoor kitchen set up around the corner from the patio, a covered area for BBQ, a firepit, camp stove setup....a place to eat....and maybe do a bit of water bath canning when it is hot. Maybe, someday.....we will see.

I seems very strange to think about that event that happened so long ago. There have been many good times, as well as many bad times. Marriage certainly has its ups and downs. Strength and strong will is something that is required to hang onto a relationship when things are really rough. Regrets...sure, doesn't everyone have them. Sometimes, I wonder if humans were meant to be partners for life. We change so much in our lives and life can hand out some difficult situations. Giving each other the room to be ourselves is important, and to understand that we are each very different people. Vows, that we make can be difficult to keep.
I spoke with a friend recently, who experienced the devastation of her husband just leaving her...with no explanation. She is so broken, and starting a new life. She doesn't understand what happened, and probably never will. I think that he had developed a mental health issue. What do I say? I told her that she is very strong and brave. She and her 2 grown children are very close...and together they will be alright. I had tears in my eyes, for her pain and suffering. Oh how does one help a friend that is hurting so much...... I only hope that I was some comfort to her. I pray for her.

My photos snapped at the wedding. I did not have much time to take photos, however I did manage to get these. The photographer took much nicer images of course. Check her's out at Miss Kate's Photography she is a young gal from our hometown who is starting out her professional career. The lovely location for the wedding was Dancing Deer Mountain. Carol and Tim assisted us to have the most beautiful wedding. They are great people and I highly recommend them.
