If you had a free day.....

Tuesday, March 29, 2016
Here's an idea...some questions for you to think about.

If you had a free day all to yourself how would you spend it?

In your eyes, what makes life worthwhile?

What have you accomplished, that you are most proud of?

What is the one big goal or dream that you are working for in your life.

Aloha Window Screen Replacement Part 2

Monday, March 14, 2016

Here is the window in the two parts, glass and screen. The way these windows are made the 2 parts that fit together is pretty simple. The screen is coming apart and lets in the bugs. The next step is to drill out 2 rivets on the screen center, they hold the lever plate in place. The screen can not be replaced without removing the lever plate in the middle of the screen.

Now that I have looked carefully at the window...there are a few more gaskets that should be replaced. These gaskets are original (1963) and are dried out, falling apart, and shrunk. I should be able to get those items at Vintage Trailer Supply.

Northwest Winter's Last Storm

Sunday, March 13, 2016

It seems when we think that spring is on this way....hummingbirds and daffodils...we get a small taste of winter again. This weekend has given us a big reminder, strong winds, and much rain. There is a forecast of snow, maybe low enough for our farm. I sure hope that the snow stays above our elevation.

The chickadee in the photo? The birds know that this weather is coming and are eating all kinds of wild bird food that I feed them. The deer, elk and turkeys are eating all they can before it snows. I am happy that we do not have any little calves yet. Time to stay indoors and wait it out.

Always, Make Time For Tea

Thursday, March 10, 2016

I don't have this beautiful tea set, but I do have tea! Maybe my insulated cup is not this pretty...but there are some cute ones out there. I have one from Starbucks and a Hydro Flask,  that I love...really pretty, and it keeps my tea warm. I love a good Vanilla Chai Tea Latte! So yummy! A special way to treat myself. I toast all of you with my cup of tea!

Vintage Aloha Trailer Repair

Wednesday, March 9, 2016
This photo is from the day I purchased the 1963 Aloha Travel Trailer.

Today, the window is removed in this photo.

Yesterday I was watching a Utube video showing how to repair the back window in my trailer, Prairie Flower. I watched 3 videos in all, to see the complete process. My trailer was restored....but the back window had a problem with bad window screen, the person who restored the trailer took a shortcut with the screen. They cut out the bad screen and put a window screen patch on it. I am getting bugs into the trailer when I open the window. The entire window/screen unit must be removed to replace the screen.

Today, I decided to start on removing the window. I will not be going camping for some time. I followed the directions from the video, and the window came right out. I cleaned up the dirt and goo around the frame. All is good, no sign of wood rot...nice and dry. I am happy that these vintage trailers were made with the ability of DIY repairs.

Next step in this process, locate the proper screen and supplies to put it back together. There is a small trailer and RV repair shop, and I know that they will have what I need. This is important to me. I want to feel empowered to take on more projects with the trailer.

Self Kindness - It Is Important

Tuesday, March 8, 2016

I think that this small sentence, "I choose to be kind to myself.", is one of the most important things to remember when you feel badly.

It is not any good to beat-up yourself, to be hyper critical, and destructive to yourself.

You must remember to take care of yourself, and to treat yourself with kindness, love, and gentleness. Isn't that the way you would want to be treated by others? Do it, and practice doing it to yourself. You will be better for it....

Find Your Tribe

Monday, March 7, 2016

"It's so important to surround yourself with the right kinds of people when you are striving to live a meaningful life.  We can not always choose who we walk with on our paths in life, but whenever we can, it makes everything easier, more joyful, and so much more productive when we choose to spend our days with people who bring out the best in us, see the best in us, and believe the best about us.

Seek out people who want you to become better, people who leave you feeling better when you spend time with them...people who are focused on positive and good things.

It will inevitably rub off on you and before you know it, YOU will be the one that others are seeking out because YOU are leaving everyone better, happier, and more hopeful than they were before you found them."

This is the daily message from Brave Girls Club. I think that it is profound...and something to strive to accomplish. The camp that I attended in November brought this concept to the forefront in my thoughts. We now call ourselves a tribe...because that is truly what happened during those amazing days that we shared.

The first camp that I attended did not bring me the peace and closeness. I want to say that because every camp is different. There are groups that do not bond....and there are those that have reunions.

I have shared a number of blog posts along this theme, because I found the profound nature of the concept of tribe or clan.

"Clan Isn't Always What You're Born Into"

Saturday, March 5, 2016

Today I want to quote an up and coming young woman writer, Jenna Woginrich. She is 30 and has embarked upon her life journey in a unique way. A path not seen by many in her age group. I have been following her blog Cold Antler Farm, for about 6 years. I find that her life is an intriguing story...and I "get" her. She is young to have found her path...and is following her dreams. Of course, sometimes she has many problems and needs a clan of people to give support to her. This quote is from her book One Woman Farm.

"Your clan isn't necessarily your current friends, family, and acquaintance's. You may have to seek outside your comfort zone for people who want to share the firelight with you. A tribe that supports and respects your dreams is a rarity -- but if you can kindle it, you are rich.

Sometimes we get lucky and it is our own siblings, parents, childhood friends, and cousins around those bonfires. Sometimes it isn't. A clan isn't necessarily what you're born into or marry. A clan is people who wrap you in the support and concern--people you can call at 1am and they will come running with shovels. When you find them, you find home. They are out there, waiting.

Trick is you must look. You don't have to be religious to let the Tein'-eigin burn in your heart. You do need to accept that a better life is something worth believing in.

May your clan light the way."

I had to find out the meaning of Tein'-eigin. It is a Scottish tradition that refers to an ancient ritual that is started after a clan has gone through a particularly bad time. They all extinguish the fires in their hearths, and then start a huge bonfire, from which the new coals are taken to restart hearth fires. There is a tradition of prayer for better times. I just touched lightly on this subject, there is much more to learn if your are interested.

Finding your tribe or clan is a concept that we all understand. Sometimes we just easily find it...and other times there is a searching involved. A person can have very dear friends, and relations, who don't "get" you. Hum...it is hard to say this... but I believe that a person can outgrow these connections. We all change throughout our lives...after all...life experiences and wisdom are happening all the time. Trying to bring dear people along with you isn't working very well for me...sometimes they are stuck in the past and what worked for them 15-25 years ago. I can hope that they decide to come along...it is going to be fun....

Vintage West Bend Ovenette..and where to get a manual

Friday, March 4, 2016

I have been looking at oven options for my trailer. The oven in the original stove does not work. I have considered many things to try. I could always bring along one of my camping dutch ovens....but that means, a whole bunch of stuff  A big bunch of stuff...and charcoal. All that stuff equals too much extra weight and fuss.

This is a West Bend Ovenette, a stove top model, from the 1950's. The vintage trailer community talks about using these. The National Serro Scotty Organization has information on their website. Heck....they even have cooking competitions using them. This link is to their website, and directly to the Ovenette information.

I purchased one from an Ebay seller. Now I am committed to use it.
