Today, I visited the Jordan Schnitzer Art Museum, located on the University of Oregon campus. I thought that a quiet Sunday would be a good time, and I was right. School's out and campus is deserted (parking easy and free). I completely enjoyed the exhibit. They would not let me take any photos, so these are all from the Internet. This is the cover of the book that is for sale.
This is the exhibit room, as you enter this extremely large canvas is the focal point. It is breathtakingly beautiful.
I fell in love with this portrait, it is for sale for $650 unframed. Very lovely.
This young women wore this authentic dress, that is 6 generations in her family. It is beautiful!
The are many black and white portraits in the exhibit, I cannot show all of them. I like the expression on this woman's face, captured preciously.
She looks like there are many wonderful stories she can tell.
I love her chaps and the wonderful colors in this portrait.
I did not find a good rendering of this portrait on the Internet. It is kind of blurry. Not in person...it is beautiful. This artwork is on a giant banner outside the museum...simply wonderful.

Wow, I totally missed that her new season on Food Network has begun. It is a good thing that I had the DVR set up to record all new shows. I saw the 3 shows that were recorded yesterday. I took notice of the Chicken Spaghetti Recipe. I am going to make this very soon. Here is the link to the recipe Ree-drummond/chicken-spaghetti-recipe. She says that this casserole is excellent! The ratings say it too.

This craft idea is really fun and not costly. First, find yourself an old hardcase suitcase. It needs to be in good shape, so your work is less. Make sure to look and smell the interior, you don't one that looks and smells bad. I found a small green one, just the right size for my notebook laptop, nook, and other things that I like to take with me. I have fabric for the sides and I found this tutorial for the instructions- www.the36thavenue.com and look down the right side to a pic of the suitcase for the instructions. I like the base color, green, of my found suitcase (cost $3.50), and don't want to paint it...that is a good thing.

My Favorite Cartoon - Stone Soup by Jan Eliot. She lives near my area, and just seems to capture my experiences of motherhood. I really agree with her, Ya Gotta Love August!!!

It is back to school time, and my memories of childhood are of new dresses and saddle shoes. Yep, my mom loved these sturdy, practical leather shoes. They lasted until I grew out of them. I think that I had a pair of these every year until High School. I liked the tan and brown colors best...with anklets or knee highs of course. An icon of the 50's! How about you?

This blanket is not a Hudson Bay Blanket. There are only 3 stripes, and a Hudson Bay Blanket has 4, and black points indicating the size. It is not even a Pendleton Glacier NP blanket...the colors and stripes are not right. Anyway, that said, it is a vintage blanket...maybe a JC Penny brand. I am not sure, there is no sewn on tag. I purchased it today at St. Vinnie's, for $4.49. I know that I can resell it to some mountain man reenactors I know...they love to get these, I have sold 2 different blankets in the past. Or...maybe I will just keep it to use when camping or dutch oven cooking (to pad the ice cold picnic bench) in the winter. My research is that ebay sellers are asking between $50 - $99 for this blanket, in great condition. I would never ask for more than $20 for this blanket. I will think about it for a bit.

Last summer I collected some seed pods from my yellow daylily, planted the seed in the soil between some blueberry plants, and forgot them. What happened? I am happy to say that now there are 3 blooming daylily plants. I have plans to transplant them. I have more seed pods ripening this year...and I will repeat the process. Of course the outcome may be a spectacular new flower, or a disappointment. I think that it is a fun, interesting, thing to do. Using my own seeds makes the planting free to me. Maybe a public park could provide other colors and blooms...of course, be discreet when collecting seed pods. I don't think that there are seed pod police...
I need to divide and transplant several daylily clumps, and that is a better way to create a large display of a single type of flower. Now...if only the deer don't eat them.

I just need to share an experience that I had recently with you. Have any of you actually become acquainted with a real Mail Order Bride? I can conceive that a woman's life in her country must be very bad to do this. There are certainly many factors that come into making such a decision. This Filipino woman has just turned 50, she came here to marry him at about 40. She calls him darling and seems to be happy. He is about 85, a mean, grouchy, horrible old man. He does not like normal women, and insulted us with most everything he said that day, obnoxious, arrogant, and rude. I think that no American woman would have him. He reminds me of my dad, and that is not a good thing...and definitely not a nice thing to say. Apparently, he has not much income, she works full-time at McDonald's. I think he married her for a servant, bed partner, and income provider. I guess that her life is much better here...but...is this human trafficking? I have to say that I have much to be thankful for and this meeting opened my eyes. I have great compassion for her.

Wow, the vintage fair is coming this weekend...right here in Oakridge Oregon.
Deana and I are bringing our second vintage sale to our hometown on the weekend. This time we are better prepared, and there will be a huge number of visitors coming thru on the weekend. Plus, the Ukulele Festival is here, bringing many folks from all over the country. May our feet hold up...and the heat be tolerable. Here we go, wish us good luck!!
