Wear Your Joy Project

Friday, September 25, 2015

This is a rare and unique idea to may of us. The idea to wear hair, clothing, shoes, hats, jewelry, that bring joy to ourselves. I may have found this idea late in my life....I was so busy "dressing for success" and fitting the image of where I wanted my career to go. I had sort of a uniform for myself...it worked in my environment. Now that I am retired from the workplace, I have freedom of expression. I am not a radical....just look at my last post about nail polish. I love my extensive collection of scarves and jewelry. I love the current color and highlights in my hair. (Although I still miss my beautiful red hair.)Kelly Rae Roberts offers an inexpensive online class that helps break out of the old rut.

Revlon Gel Envy - I love it!

Thursday, September 24, 2015

This is a product review for my readers. I have found a great new product line from Revlon. It is Colorstay Gel Envy Longwear Nail Enamel.

I do like a nice manicure, however I cannot keep one looking good for more than 2 days. I just do so much with my hands, and I don't have the time to do my nails very often.

I was shopping at Walgreen's last week and saw this product two pack (Perfect Pair) in the top photo. It was on sale, and I got another dollar off with a coupon. Did you know that Walgreen's often have manufacturers coupons available for their customers? That fact is great for customer service. I got the 2 pack for about $4.

I got the color (535) that is shown in the lower picture.  OK, maybe you don't like that color...but I like pretty tame colors. I went ahead and did my nails and they dried pretty fast and look just as pretty as the photo. It is now a week later, and other than a little tip wear....my nails still look great. I have been camping the last 5 days. I will be leaving it on to see how long the products do last.

A Little Bird Told Me, Brave Girls Club

Thursday, September 17, 2015

Dear Beautiful Girl,

It is important to remember that no one has the right or power to take away your choices, your thoughts, or the essence of who you are.

Lots of things in life can be taken from us, but most of the things that are most valuable cannot. Things that matter most cannot be seen, and really can be protected fiercely be our own selves so that they are not violated or crushed in any way. No person or situation can make us feel bad, or small, or stuck unless we allow it to. It is our choice.

Be careful with your dreams. Be kind to them. Protect your choices and your ability to make them. Make good choices so you are not chained by the consequences of poor ones. Watch your thoughts and make sure that what you want most is what you are thinking about most. Stand up for what you believe in and don't settle for anything else.

We can decide what kind of life we have, and we are the  only ones who can decide. We can't wait around for things to happen, we must take action to make them happen.

This is taken exactly from the Brave Girls Club Daily Message Sept 17, 2015

I was surprised at the power of this message and wanted to share it with all my dear followers. You can receive these messages by signing up for them, it's free, and go to Brave Girls Club to get the email delivered to you.

I love Ariat Boots

Tuesday, September 15, 2015

These are my new Ariat boots for the coming fall and winter. I decided to go ahead and get some new ones. These are not western, but they are good looking and have a waterproof inner membrane. The uppers are a treated insulated lined canvas, and the boot is a waterproof leather. The weather here is very wet after summer is over, and this style will keep my feet warm and dry. They have the Ariat wonderful foot form, shape, and comfort. If you have never tried on an Ariat boot...just check them out. I found these online at Zappos. I know that I wear a size 10 in Ariats, so I am happy. I ordered these on Saturday and received them the next Monday at noon! That is great shipping (free).

I have been wearing my old Ariat boots for too long, they are really shabby looking, but still have life in them...for what...gardening, and maybe painting the house. I think that the old ones will be garden "pots" for something next year.

I have found that when I purchase high quality footwear, the extra expense is a bargain in the long run. (I don't mean the ultra expensive designer footwear.) Boots that I love, that are very comfortable to wear, that are classic, and fit well into my lifestyle are the best for me. Money well spent...then several years later I will make myself replace them. Unlike a pair of boots, that I wore 3 times, and will be selling at Buffalo Exchange. That was a mistake... for sure....

These are named Chatsworth H20, and I got them online at Zappos.

Mrs Wages Pasta Sauce....Yummy!

Monday, September 14, 2015

I just finished canning up two batches of Mrs. Wages Pasta Sauce, making 6 pints.  I have used this mix for several years, to make homemade sauce with my home grown Roma Tomatoes. It is pretty easy to use this mix, and I am very happy with the results. A great tasting sauce that can be made even better at the time of use. I follow the directions precisely, and add other things when I use it. I recommend this mix to anyone who has many Roma's to use up.

Vintage Yellow Enamelware Covered Pot

Saturday, September 12, 2015

This enamelware was a surprise I found at an antique fair. European? Not Chinese! It is not marked on the bottom, it is old, how old? The inside is pristine white. The lid is a great bonus. The size is about 9" across the top. I am going to put it to use in my vintage trailer, Prairie Flower, a 1963 Aloha. I have been getting some old enamelware to use, and it is fun to get away from the ordinary! When I bring this to potluck dinners, the gals will ask about it, even if there is a pasta salad inside.

This photo is from pinterest. They say on an Etsy store that it is Japan, but it isn't marked....how do they know. Anyway, they don't have the lid.........

Remembering 9/11, 102 minutes that changed America...

Friday, September 11, 2015
This day is one of my generation's most tragic days. Much like the day President Kennedy was assassinated. We will never forget. I honor all those assassinated by terrorists, and pray for all of us.

Time to Chill, #3

Wednesday, September 9, 2015

I have had the Starbucks Tazo Passion Tea Lemonade, it is really good, and costs way too much. I live in a rural area, and the nearest Starbucks is about 50 miles from home. This copycat recipe appeals to me. Joyful Mommas Kitchen

Time to Chill Again

I have been reading that there is a trick to make ice tea that is not bitter. This is news to me.....hum, well I am going to give it a try. The trick is to add a tiny bit of baking soda to the hot tea. Hum...again...I normally make sun tea and add a bit of sweetener, and lemon, while it is still warm. Next time I will add 1/8 teaspoon for a 1/2 gallon. I am skeptical...

Vintage Pendleton Blankets

Sunday, September 6, 2015

Pendleton Woolen Mills are located in Oregon and Washington, USA. I have toured the Camas, Washington mill and the process of making these incredible blankets is amazing. About 35 years ago the mill had a outlet, seconds store on the site. I purchased several blankets there. I got an extra large Chief Joseph Ivory blanket, that I use on a king size bed. They would make some blankets out of various odds and ends of yarn, kind of like a camp blanket...except there was no pattern, just stripes, and each blanket ended up one of a kind. These were only sold there. I purchased one of those also, it is a double bed size, the colors are lovely whites and grays, truly lovely. They had no tags from the outlet store, but of course I know where they came from, and that it was 1980. I still have lengths of plaid wool, to use for sewing.

The blankets that Pendleton makes are made to be used for generations. Sometimes the blankets end up at junk stores, and thrift stores. A true junker, and lover of these items....I always check for the blankets. I have touched enough to be able to tell a quality blanket from feel. There are times when I find one that is in wonderful condition, no mouse or moth holes, fringe intact and worth the small price to acquire.

I found a blanket identical to this photo, at a thrift store's 1/2 off sale. I did buy it. The nights suddenly are colder, and it is under the bedspread to cover me. Wool is wonderfully warm, and comfortable to sleep under. Fellow junkers....keep your eye out for these beauties. It is difficult to date them, there is a symbol for wool, that has only been on the tags since 1964. The Beaver State tag is older than that. The leather tags are currently used on these blankets... motor robes.

1963 Schwinn Starlet Bicycle

Friday, September 4, 2015

I went out junking this week, after doing my errands and shopping. Goodwill had this bike in the rack of used bikes for sale. I really liked this Flamboyant Blue Schwinn (that is what they named this color). This bike was made in the Chicago Schwinn factory on 6/26/1963, and when it was new, the cost was $46.95.

It is not all original, and the front rack and head light are gone. That is OK, the basics are there and in decent condition. I cleaned it today, and added air to the tires. I took it to the local bike shop and they assisted me with a few things...and I purchased the front basket from them. They are great at the Willamette Mountain Mercantile. They specialized in Mountain Trail Bikes, but will help with other bikes. In fact, the woman working there really loved this vintage bike...and she wants to find one for her own mom.

This bicycle is the same era as my 1963 Vintage Aloha Trailer. Hum...serendipity......I will have fun taking it with me on Glamping trips.

I was Junking Yesterday and look at this....

Patio Daddy-O

Wednesday, September 2, 2015

I found this fun cookbook today, it has great old 50's food made over for this era. How about some "She-Devil Dogs". It is for baked beans with sausages.

This recipe is interesting, "Cheesy-Drippin', Garlic-Fumin' St. Louis Salad. It features Artichoke Hearts, and Hearts of Palm. Hum, it sounds yummy.

You can find this book at a used bookstore online for very little $. This book is destined to be a gift for someone.
